Nairon Santos de Morais Loud and Clear Reviews Hayao Miyazaki and the Heron is as much an ode to lost collaborators and a confrontation with death as it is a making-of doc to 2023’s The Boy and the Heron. Rated: 4/5 Jan 7, 2025 Full Review Erik Augustin Palm Japan Times The film presents not a mythic figure but a flawed, deeply human one, making his struggles and triumphs all the more relatable. Adam H This is not entertainment, it is a very raw and honest look at a creative genius and the process of his professional life. The direction is excellent in cramming 6 years of a production process into 2 hours and you end with a deeper understanding of Hayao Miyazaki and the Studio Ghibli. I think it is a must see for Ghibli fans. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/25 Full Review Chara C What seems to be a somewhat clunky documentary becomes profound when watching The Boy and the Heron animated movie in succesion. You will be utterly shocked and touched on how much these two are intertwined. For those who want a more complex and in-depth understanding of Miyazakis thoughts and feelings regarding acceptance, grief and legacy this is a must watch.
