Desperate for money, smooth conman Marty Holland (Hal March) and his best friend, Max (Joe E. Ross), decide to rig the Miss World Wide Beauty contest. Marty plans to enter his former girlfriend, Rita (Jean Willes), in the contest and convinces her to pay for her own entry fee. But Marty soon loses the money to a compulsive gambler friend, and when an outraged Rita withdraws, Marty is forced to beg a striking stranger, process server Ruth Collins (Merry Anders), to step in her place.
