Heidi will work its way into viewers' hearts just as she herself finds a way into most everyone's heart whom she meets. Go to Full Review

The film moves in fits and starts. There are long, slow sections intersprinkled with moments of pure joy and heartfelt emotion. Go to Full Review

Samuel Friend's performance as Peter is shockingly bad. He looks far too clean cut for the part, delivers his lines badly and frequently appears to be looking at the director for approval. Go to Full Review

08/10/2022 The greatest 01 hour: and 44 minutes ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See more 10/29/2019 Emma Bolger and Max Von Sydow did an excellent job. Lovely version. See more 06/29/2014 lovely family film :) See more 01/07/2012 A solid if somewhat joyless adaptation which suffers from focussing on the time in Frankfurt too much See more 12/27/2011 True family film at it's best! See more 12/14/2011 Heidi is the story of an 8 year old orphan girl who is sent by her aunt to live with her reluctant grandfather in the Swiss Alps who soon warms to her live-affirming positive and loving personality. However, her aunt then returns and takes her to the big city (Frankfurt) to become the playmate of wheelchair bound 11year old Clara. Whilst their friendship is strong Heidi longs to return to the mountains and eventually both make their way back with amazing consequences for all involved. This is undoubtedly one of the best adaptations of this classic children's story and both Emma Bolger as Heidi and Max von Sydow as her grandfather are simply superb. This is old fashioned good story telling with few special effects, gentle pacing and plenty of character development - in short the sort of film that could never be made in Hollywood without overbearing music, silly songs or sentimental acting. It's all the better for keeping it simple and definitely one that will make into my family library. The DVD unfortunately has no extras but the film is defniitely worth watching.
