Mike Hale New York Times An inspirational film, with a fairly conventional structure and a vivid, sometimes heroic cast of women. Rated: 3/5 Nov 19, 2010 Full Review Michael Atkinson Village Voice An almost wholesome chronicle of the origins of the roller-derby renaissance, Nov 16, 2010 Full Review John Beifuss Commercial Appeal (Memphis, TN) The movie is at its best -- and its most unexpected -- as a surprise economics lesson: a paean to the value of collectivism vs. the typical capitalistic business model in which all the power is at the top. Audience Member Must have been an inspiration for the movie 'Whip It'. Finally a doc that women will love, but confirms my beliefs that women can be nutty. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Roller derby documentary, more about business building and the politics and betrayals of it than the sport itself. Kind of cheaply made and loose but enjoyable. Soundtrack by Trail of Dead. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member WOOOW!!! Definitely worth taking a look at Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Audience Member If you enjoyed this documentary, you might also like the book “Rollergirl: Totally True Tales from the Track” by Melissa “Melicious” Joulwan. You'll remember Melicious as the one with the short, blonde hair and killer smile (she was first in the Hellcats, then in the Hot Rod Honeys). Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Not much skating, but a fascinating look at the behind-the-scenes politics of the league that helped bring back roller derby. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Just as i thought a documentery based on "roller derby" that actually shows it how it is. The documentery looks at a bunch of bored woman who never really made the grade for any sport and numerous other so called "misfits" and throws them together to meet up on a regular basis to skate round in a f**king cirlce trying to overtake so called "blockers" who basically block two "jammers" that are trying to get past them to score points. This is a lowbrow look at the sport which basically by the end of it will have you wanting you to blow your brains out or punch someone in the face...either way you'll want your f**king money back. Go watch my dinner with andre instead.... Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/23 Full Review Read all reviews
