After having a fight with her husband, Vera Kessler (Ann Harding) escapes into the arms of gigolo Arnold Hartmann (Lawford Davidson). Although Vera eventually returns to her senses and goes back home, it's not before writing Arnold a sheaf of letters that could ruin her marriage and destroy her high-society standing. Arnold uses the missives to blackmail Vera, and, when the day comes to pay off her extortionist, she unwittingly steps into an even bigger scandal -- murder.
