Strong acting and good intentions aren't enough to overcome all the obvious turns in Here Are the Young Men's derivative story.

Peter Bradshaw Guardian There's certainly an impressive cast lineup for this one, but there's also something weirdly formless and frustrating about it as well... Rated: 2/5 Apr 30, 2021 Full Review John DeFore The Hollywood Reporter [W]ith a stronger script and direction, Young Men could have been a similar big-screen showcase for its TV-famous leads. Apr 30, 2021 Full Review Amy Smith InSession Film This is a solid direction from Eoin Macken, with an overall strong script and some wonderful performances. Rated: B- Feb 29, 2024 Full Review Rebecca Johnson Film Focus Online Covering a range of tough topics from drug abuse to suicide, the movie doesn't hold back from giving us a chaotic yet realistic look at life as a teenager, with great performances yet unfortunately surface level discussions. Rated: 4/5 Aug 6, 2023 Full Review Douglas Davidson Elements of Madness What can be said without hesitation is that Here Are the Young Men should work, should resonate, should bring to mind the hardship of the shift into adulthood. Rated: 2/5 Sep 2, 2021 Full Review Jorge Ignacio Castillo The Canadian Crew The talented lead performers keep the characters watchable even at their worst. The conclusion works as a moral litmus test, but it's not as compelling as everything that preceded it. Rated: 3/5 Jul 18, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Justine Dave S A great movie, I loved dean-charles chapman and anya-taylor joy performance, it was good, but the script is a bit weak but overall a 5/5 movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/28/24 Full Review Tom S It really seems these days that many film-makers think having good ingredients and good intentions are enough. It results in many lazy, perfunctory denouements like this one that just undercut everything that's come before. ATJ lit up every scene she was in, and I missed her when she wasn't on, an underused talent. All in all a waste. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/03/24 Full Review Audience Member Cautionary tale of be careful who your friends are. Saw this because I'm running through everything with Anya in it. Side Note: Her as a redhead, works. The thing that bothers me the most about this movie, is the lack of originality. Everything is so cliched, and lazily written. They tried too hard to be edgy and standout, and you could tell. It's a shame, because all the actors did a pretty good job. They each played their individual roles nicely. Matthew could've been more assertive though. He was such a pushover. But maybe that was the point, especially given how the film ended. Makes sense, I guess. They are seriously affected by what they witnessed to begin the Summer and paid the price for it in one way or another. Each actor has their own well defined struggle that they try to cope with and manage. Some actors didn't fare out too well. It's a short enjoyable watch. Not horrible or anything, just lacks originality. Worth watching, especially if you can't get enough of Anya ❤️ lol This gets a LennyReviewz Score of: 5/10 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member 2.5. I love anya taylor-joy Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 06/12/22 Full Review Audience Member Here Are The Young Men is a messy coming of age film. Easily the best part of the film is Anya Taylor-Joy’s supporting performance. She proves yet again she’s a star, and steals every scene she’s in. The rest of the acting is also solid, especially Dean-Charles Chapman in the leading role. I wasn’t a big fan of the direction. A lot of times it felt too over-stylized, and it distracted from the story. The characters are also too unlikeable at times, although it does make sense for the ending they go for. Overall, I’m pretty mixed on this. The acting mostly saves this from being bad, but I wouldn’t call this film good. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/27/21 Full Review Read all reviews
