HIGH & LOW - JOHN GALLIANO is the gripping and thought-provoking new documentary from Academy Award® winner Kevin Macdonald, charting the rise-and-fall story of fashion designer John Galliano. Galliano was widely recognized as one of the most successful names in 1990s and 2000s couture, until his career abruptly ended when he was caught on camera in 2011 hurling antisemitic and racist insults at bystanders in Paris. Macdonald's compelling documentary traces Galliano's working and private life through the decades, candidly investigating his struggles with addiction and the industry pressure he faced along the way. Sandra Hall Sydney Morning Herald In other words, it’s a moral tale -- or, in this case, an amoral one, since Galliano emerges from Macdonald’s film as being naively tone-deaf to society’s sensitivities. Yet, it’s also clear he inspires great affection in those who have worked with him. Rated: 4/5 May 30, 2024 Full Review Deborah Ross The Spectator I went into the cinema wanting to hear what Galliano had to say about it all... But the film never properly gets to the bottom of it. X The worst thing a movie can do…is to leave you feeling indifferent…nothing for Galliano…for his fashion…or anyone involved… The one thing you can feel is that this director had no knowledge (or interest) of or in Fashion. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/28/24 Full Review Kendel An incredibly modern and luxurious setting. The Q&A with the Director afterwards made for an exceptional experience. The documentary speaks to the truth of a lived experience and leaves the viewer with the space to contemplate the friction between two truths.
