Mark H. @Zeppo Nov 15 Plenty of noir conventions (e.g. the only marriage in the bunch is loveless) but the speech at the end explaining the whole thing doesn't make it retroactively interesting. See more nick s 10/16/2023 The directing was stiff and the dialogue a bit too tight. The actors had some strong spells and then moments when they sounded like they were just reading out the script. Overall passable. It lifted near the end. See more stu b 07/11/2022 An only intermittently entertaining crime flick staring Don Castle as a reporter-turned-private eye hired by his former editor to shield him from his enemies. Some snappy tough guy repartee and quick-hitting scenes don't quite rescue the film from a complicated but strangely unexciting plot, and the big reveal finale--though admittedly unexpected--wraps things up a bit too abruptly. Aside from some of the performances and a handful of classic noirish images, "High Tide"--an obscure little 90-minute chestnut from 1947--doesn't have a whole lot to recommend it. Nothing else to do? Give it a look. Something better? Don't bother. See more Read all reviews
