Martin Tsai Los Angeles Times 10/30/2014
An offbeat rom-com that ventures down the film-noir path, "Hit by Lightning" manages to make dark comedy fresh by combining two formulas. Go to Full Review

"Hit by Lightning" often resembles a laugh-deprived "Seinfeld" episode. Go to Full Review

From its uninspired, sitcom-y look to its phoned-in dialogue ("I love you plus infinity"; "I love you plus double infinity") to its creaky plot, "Hit by Lightning" is anything but electrifying. Go to Full Review

Never gets past mildly amusing, finding Blitt unwilling to spin the effort dizzy with madcap encounters and pitch-black comedy. Go to Full Review

Hit By Lightning might have worked as black comedy, but Blitt clearly lacks any instinct for genuine darkness. Go to Full Review

Martin B 09/05/2023 Will Sasso's energy is literally the only thing good about this movie that should never have been made. Unfortunately Jon Cryer has only one character now. The unloved sad sack straight from his Two and a Half Men days. In a sitcom supporting a lead like Charlie with charisma it worked. Build a whole movie around the guy with a script that makes no sense on any level is why it got the ratings it did. Starting with a 10 falling is love with a perpetual bummer that's a 5 and having the love be real. See more Cork B 08/30/2023 I'm not sure what you expected when Jon Cryer is the romantic lead. Yeah of COURSE it is going to be dumb, and the plot was just cheesy. That all said, it is at least as good as any rom-com that takes itself seriously, and there is enough self-deprecating humor and jokes to entertain a bit anyway. See more 11/23/2017 Just a bit of a mess. See more 02/14/2017 funny movie calm scenes but it made no sense See more 10/03/2015 comedy meets love meets murder. laughs were few n far between. story was Allright but overall just nothing special See more 09/30/2015 I kept watching for no other reason but to see how this train wreck ends. Sasso has never been so unfunny in his life. Which is hard to do. How this abomination ever got made is beyond me. See more Read all reviews
