Steve D The actress is good the rest is after school special. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Dull film with decent hockey choreography that relies on the surprising appearance of Rick Moranis for any legitimacy. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Your standard issue 80s sports movie (with the motivation rock music during training even). However there are not very many hockey movies compared to other sports. Most of the hockey movies alway seems to be about the goons/enforcers of the game, this one is about a goalie, a female goalie on a men's team for that matter. Besides that it's a very good and very under rated movie. I had to buy the VHS on ebay, this movie is better than most of the hockey movies that are on DVD. Even more surprised to see Rick Moranis in this movie, does a good job in a serious role, too bad he's never had much chances of serious roles. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member When newcomer Cathy decides to join the boys' hockey team, the sporting community is divided. The coach is thrilled with the talented new goalie, but others aren't as pleased. Challenged by inflexible attitudes and small-town politics, Cathy continues to play with courage, determination, and skill until she is cut from the team. With their championship at stake, the other players stand up for what they know is right and become winners by being true to themselves. They know when the game is over it's who they are that matters most. "Well folks, we're in for a good game tonight as the All Stars play their championship game without their controversial goalie Cathy Yarrow..." And so that's what the event announcer would say at the start of the game. The whole town of Parry Sound may be not pleased of having a female goalie in the male-dominated hockey team, but the coach hired her even it means nothing against feminism while it's only the sake of the game. Cathy has her reason of playing the icy sport for her experience in past championships, and I think she enjoyed it more than her friend Spear, who has been pressured too much by his father just to bring honor to his family. Just as I recently bought Hockey Night on the old VHS format I was looking forward to seeing it and then learning that Megan Follows (OMG, Anne of Green Gables is a goalie on ice!) and Rick Moranis are among of its cast members. They both did their acting performances very well. I also had no idea that it was an edited version for family discussion (which leaves me no idea why they did that), so after watching it I expect better things if I were to find the original cut. Overall, it's still a very good film for its dramatic portrayal of hockey. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member This is the greatest made for Canadian television and bought by HBO film ever made. Quite simply, the film that inspired my love of hockey, Canada, hockey players, and boys named SPEAR! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member This was filmed in Parry Sound, Ontario home of Hockey Legend Bobby Orr. This was very cool to watch being filmed and many of the exras in the film were classmates of mine. Aside from he local nostalgia this is a great small town, girl power movie. For the love of the game. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Barry Hertz Globe and Mail It's all fairly hokey and dated, but at least a young Megan Follows makes the most of her starring role. Rated: 2.5/4 Dec 16, 2016 Full Review Read all reviews
