Anton Bitel Little White Lies What follows is like James Cameron's The Terminator, only with an invisible assassin substituted for a time-travel cyborg. TheMovieSearch R Hollow Man 2 is one of those sequels that feels disconnected from everything that made the original intriguing. Without Kevin Bacon or any returning characters, the movie immediately loses the continuity and psychological weight that grounded the first film. Instead, it tries to reinvent itself with a new cast, new storyline, and a different approach to the invisibility concept—but the execution never quite lands. The biggest issue here is that the film feels like it’s trying to reboot an idea rather than continue it. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, but the direction lacks focus, and the tone shifts awkwardly between action-thriller and sci-fi horror without ever finding balance. The director seems eager to recapture the energy of the first movie, yet the pacing and tension feel flat. There’s very little suspense, and what could have been an eerie psychological exploration instead becomes a routine chase story. The new cast does what they can with the material, but it’s clear that the script gives them little room to shine. Some performances work—especially when the film tries to ground itself in its science-fiction roots—but others feel wooden and uninspired. The chemistry between the characters is uneven, and the lack of a strong central performance like Kevin Bacon’s leaves a noticeable void. The screenplay itself is where the movie truly falters. It’s clunky, unfocused, and lacks the sharp dialogue or moral complexity that made the first film at least thought-provoking. There are a few interesting ideas sprinkled throughout—attempts to explore the consequences of invisibility technology—but none of them are fully developed. It often feels like a first draft stretched into a feature-length script. Visually, the film looks cheaper and less refined, and while the effects aren’t terrible, they never reach the innovative standards set by Hollow Man. The story struggles to justify its existence, offering little in the way of originality or depth. It’s a sequel that feels more like a straight-to-video experiment than a proper continuation of a once-promising concept. In the end, Hollow Man 2 collapses under the weight of its own ambitions. It’s not unwatchable, but it’s forgettable—a pale imitation of what came before. With tighter writing, a more compelling cast, and a clearer vision, this could’ve been a worthy addition to the franchise. Instead, it serves as a reminder that not every story needs a sequel, especially when the soul of the original has already vanished. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/27/25 Full Review Snow F Wished the fight scene between the two invisible men lasted a little longer but the story line wasn't too bad. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This film is like The Hitcher II. It's not exactly bad, but more forgettable. It has promise, but it starts to lose steam during the 2nd act, thus rendering the 3rd act underwhelming. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Hollow Man II takes it a different way, which is fine, different's not just good, in this case, I think it's necessary. But the biggest difference between Hollowman #1 and #2, is that #2 is boring. I don't ask that it have the same intrigue as the first, just that it have any. Anything to take it beyond "There is a man and he's invisible and he's bad and the protagonist is not". Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Gripping for the first half and I can't get my eyes off Laura Regan. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Read all reviews
