Phuong Le Guardian The striking visuals as well as the authenticity of the storytelling still make Homeward a compelling, heartbreaking watch. Dec 22, 2021 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) The film's main asset is a deft screenplay that subtly reverses the roles of father and son as the journey progresses. Dec 22, 2021 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) An important project, but hard to love. Rated: 3/5 Apr 23, 2021 Full Review Rich Cline Shadows on the Wall The simple idea is strikingly developed to get deep under the skin. Rated: 4.5/5 Dec 22, 2021 Full Review Edward Porter Sunday Times (UK) Judged in artistic terms, Nariman Aliev's film is strengthened by plenty of passion and a good visual sense, but its taste for gloomy melodrama might be too much for outsiders. Rated: 3/5 Apr 26, 2021 Full Review Emily Maskell Flip Screen The observant lens navigates a gradual conflation of bereftness, a coming together of father and son that is forced by a shared and deeply felt experience of mourning Rated: 3/5 Apr 23, 2021 Full Review Read all reviews

Horatio T Very good movie with amazing visuals and compelling characters, i think it could have gone on for longer though but it was still great! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/08/24 Full Review Denys S Unbelievably good movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/28/23 Full Review Audience Member This is AWFUL. The plot? Kind of identifiable. The characters? EXTREMELY annoying, and Barl (the orc) shows absolutely no character development. He remains childish and immature till the very end. And his elf brother has apparently forgiven Barl for almost destroying the safety of his town. Like excuse me? If someone tried to sabotage my graduation, steal from me, and almost get me killed I would absolutely not forgive them. I have the biggest headache from slapping my face with my hand because this movie is so mindless. The only redeeming character is the milk girl. And she's not even a main character. The five seconds she was on screen was the ONLY entertaining part of this movie. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 08/08/24 Full Review Audience Member Shameless. So this is about a pair of brothers, one who is an elf (Joey Lawrence) and the other who is an orc (James Cullen Bressack). They butt heads because the elf is preppy and valedictorian and the orc is a screw-up and likes to pull pranks. When a road trip goes wrong, they must put their differences aside if they want to prevent an orc biker gang from uniting a magical stone that will give them the ability to dominate the world... yeah, I don't know. If you couldn't tell from the description, please just take a glance at the poster of this. It is about as obvious as can be that this is a blatant and unabashed rip-off of Onward, right down to the title itself. This is from the film company The Asylum, and if you know anything about them, then you already know: this is just what they do. In fact, you have to respect them for moving forward on this without any fear of being sued by the mouse, which I'm not wholly convinced they'll escape from in the long run. But how's the movie itself? It's about as bad as the animation looks. Look, even if you glance at a screenshot, you can tell that this 3-D animation would seem outdated if this came out in 1995. They just didn't care, and if that wasn't evident enough, you can clearly see when they just lazily copy/paste goon characters to fill a scene. The Asylum knows that the bare minimum will suffice to satisfy their audience, which consists exclusively of people like me who sadistically go out of their way to scrape the bottom of the barrel and the elderly who purchase it accidentally for their grandchildren. The most amazing feat about this is I don't think they actually wrote any jokes for this. This movie is just lines that are being read earnestly, and you're supposed to laugh at the situation itself, but the competency is just reading at 0.00%. In fact, the voice acting is out of sync more often than it actually matches, which only goes to show you how little they actually cared. I'm not saying that you can't have fun with this. If you watch Homeward in a group setting with the expectation that you're here to be ironic, I think you can have a good time with it. I do have to call a spade a spade though, and I cannot deny that this movie should have stopped before it started. Homeward is a great movie to make fun of, and that is about it.
