Jowell T a good a good story a good a gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo9ooooooooooooooooooooioooiioiiuiiioiyyooyyouttuirritiort movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/25/24 Full Review Audience Member Love me some Jim Carrey but this was not a good movie Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review Audience Member Quite possibly the best Dr. Seuss adaptation even 15 years later mainly because it's fully animated involving no live-action portions The Grinch had the success of Jim Carey being in all that makeup and remaining very true to the book Cat in the Hat ended up being a mess with Mike Myers But Dreamworks animation finally has the chance to fully bring the beloved book to life right from the pages in all its glory An incredible voice cast ranging from Jim Carrey to Carol Burnett to Steve Carell to Amy Poehler to Jamie Presley to Seth Rogen to Will Arnett to Jonah Hill to Isla Fisher to Selena Gomez to Jesse McCartney In the jungle of Nool lives an elephant named Horton He minds his own business until he hears a faint sound like a voice A tiny spec floats by and he wants to communicate with it so he carries it on a flower The spec is actually a microscopic world full of inhabitants called the Whos The mayor is McDodd with a large family and nothing in Whoville has ever gone wrong until he notices his whole world is in danger When he proposes to postpone a big celebration the council chooses to ignore his concerns wanting things to stay safe the way they are But Horton is willing to help move their home to a more stable place otherwise their entire community will be obliterated McDodd's son Jojo is silent and feels his father doesn't recognize his talent Horton also faces persecution from Mother Kangaroo thinking he's poisoning the animals' minds making up imaginary lies, she believes things are perfect too and fears the community standards are in danger She makes it her mission to stop Horton and destroying the spec The movie is amazing family entertainment, a great cast of characters, it's visually fun to watch given how fast and fluid the characters' movements are, the creatures brought to life are imaginative, and it's funny A person is a person no matter how small and you're not insignificant acts as the overall core of it next to having faith This entry is a perfect adaptation of the late Dr. Seuss with lots of warmth Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/15/24 Full Review Sarah P This movie was a massive favorite of mine since I was only 5 years old. While the movie is far from perfect, I STILL love it, even to this day as an adult. 😋😁 I LOVE how the characters were portrayed here, but boy... BOY, OH, BOY, this interpretation of Vlad Vladikoff is EASILY my favorite. Out of all the characters in this movie, Vlad Vladikoff is actually my favorite character. I actually used to be VERY obsessed with him when I was little, and I even imitated him multiple times, reciting his lines from the movie. Will Arnett REALLY pulled off the Russian accent for the vulture, and Vlad himself... I can't even for how eccentric and goofy he is despite trying so hard to look intimidating! 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣 The movie's interpretation of the Mayor of Whoville is also my favorite. I REALLY appreciate that they FINALLY gave him a full name, Ned McDodd, and I do love how he was portrayed as an eccentric but well-meaning and dedicated mayor of Whoville, husband, and father of 97 children. Steve Carell was definitely the perfect fit for the role, and still remains to be my favorite voice role from him. 😊 Additionally, I REALLY do enjoy Jim Carrey's voice performance as Horton himself, and it's actually pretty interesting that Horton was portrayed as an eccentric nature teacher within the Jungle of Nool. This movie does a wonderful job staying true to Horton's portrayal in the original book as a dedicated and faithful elephant who is willing to risk his life to protect Whoville from those who refuse to believe that Whoville exists under the speck of dust, including the Sour Kangaroo (voiced by Carol Burnett). 😊😁 Speaking of whom, this movie did a splendid job in accurately portraying the Sour Kangaroo as a cynical kangaroo who refused to believe that Whoville existed under the speck of dust that landed on the clover. I also REALLY like how her son, named Rudy, was portrayed as an innocent, naive child who believed in the Whos compared to how he was portrayed in the original book. It's a pretty nice change. 😊 ...And as for the movie itself, I REALLY love how despite being a comedy film, it still remained faithful to its source material not only through the film's artstyle, but also its overall message about faith and standing up for what you believe in, which Horton certainly did despite the pressure from the animals of Nool to give up. Of course, the anime-esque sequence was a tiny bit weird, but it didn't bother me too much. The 2008 film is its own thing, which I do like. This movie definitely gets an 88% from me. 😊💙 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/01/24 Full Review Jacob P Best dr seuss film in the world Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/24 Full Review Luke R Really loved it, one of my favorite jim Carrey moves Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/22/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Richard Roeper Ebert & Roeper The animation's ok. I didn't like Jim Carrey. I thought he was a distraction. Mar 17, 2008 Full Review Carina Chocano Los Angeles Times The sad thing is that this Horton doesn't stick by its central message -- that every voice counts -- the way Horton sticks to the Whos. It pretends to, but the sincerity is just too scary to commit to fully.
