Alissa Simon Variety With an engaging cast led by dimpled actor and pop singer Putthipong “Billkin” Assaratanakul and 78-year-old Usha “Taew” Seamkhum, it renders universal the central message of cherishing those we love while there is still time. Dec 2, 2024 Full Review Simon Abrams RogerEbert.com What “How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies” lacks in subtlety, it more than compensates for in its range of feeling and the surprising depth of its feel-good reassurances. Rated: 3.5/4 Sep 13, 2024 Full Review Kevin Harley Radio Times Grounded in quotidian details and dry humour, Boonnitipat'sfilm is a persuasively measured weepie - and all the more moving for it. Rated: 4/5 Dec 21, 2024 Full Review Emiliano Basile EscribiendoCine ...Pat Boonnitipat develops a classical narrative melodrama with subtle touches of poetry. Rated: 3/5 Dec 20, 2024 Full Review Frank J. Avella The Contending This sentimental work soars because of the two lead performances. Both Assaratanakul and Seamkhum are wondrous and their character’s grow as the simple but beautiful story unfolds. Assaratanakul is particularly adept at using his close-ups masterfully. QING Z The story, character creation, concept, rhythm, picture, color, and music are all excellent. "The son gets the inheritance, the daughter gets cancer", lightly but straightforwardly expresses the deep-rooted imbalance in this seemingly unsolvable traditional concept. But there is no fairness in the world, and in the end, the family still relies on the inseparable love to find the forgotten true feelings and reach an understanding with each other. Isn't this the case for most of the thousands of families in reality? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/19/24 Full Review Anusha Tear-jerking movie!! Very relatable Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/18/24 Full Review Imelda H This movie was reflective of the complexities of family dynamics. It was heartwarming and lovely. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/14/24 Full Review T W The kind of movie where you stay a few minutes after— not because of a mid credits stinger, but because you need some time in the dark for the tears to dry… Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/13/24 Full Review Arnon W Great movie. Worth watching. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/13/24 Full Review Felipe F What a precious and delicate Thai drama. The film offers a deeply realistic portrayal of family conflicts — who hasn’t seen family members fighting over money? The greed of the young grandson, who embodies Gen Z with his desire to become a famous streamer, represents the modern search for quick solutions. However, the complexity with which director Pat Boonnitipat handles this plot is truly admirable. Usha Seamkhum, making her debut at the age of 78, perfectly embodies the Thai grandmother. Her chemistry with the actor who plays her grandson is sincere and genuine, and their dynamic becomes the emotional core of the film. The generational gap between them is delicately explored, showing conflict and love in ways that feel very real. Boonnitpat’s documentary-style direction adds intimacy to the interactions. The grandmother’s simple, memory-filled home becomes a character in itself, reflecting both her past and the family’s present tensions. In contrast, the vibrant markets and serene temples in the outdoor scenes create memorable scenes and amplify the emotional weight of the film. The film unfolds at a slower pace, but this works perfectly to allow us to savor the small, poignant moments between the characters. There are moments that make you laugh and others that really tear you up, and the director patiently explores the details that matter most. Ultimately, it’s a beautiful and moving portrait of family relationships. With universal themes, many will recognize their own family dynamics and be deeply moved.
