100% 5 Reviews Tomatometer 88% Fewer than 50 Ratings Audience Score In March 2018, the UN reported that 10 million Yemenis were one step away from famine and that hunger is threatening an entire generation. Borne out of a sense of urgency at the sustained civilian suffering caused by the human-caused famine in Yemen, we embedded with a team of doctors and nurses working at Therapeutic Feeding Centers (TFCs) treating those most at risk of starvation. Filmed from inside two of the most active therapeutic feeding centers in Yemen, HUNGER WARD documents two women health care workers fighting to thwart the spread of starvation against the backdrop of a forgotten war. The film provides an unflinching portrait of Dr. Aida Alsadeeq and Nurse Mekkia Mahdi as they try to save the lives of hunger-stricken children within a population on the brink of famine. The film bears witness to the unfolding tragedy with a cinematic eye -- thus rendering horror watchable, and deepening empathy for our subjects and awareness of the significant civilian suffering resulting from the current conflict. Audience Member This is not an easy movie to watch. Set in Yemen it follows two hospitals that specialize in malnutrition of children. It is heartbreaking to see these innocent children literally starving to death. They will all touch your heart but a little girl named Abeer brought me to tears. She is 6 years old and weighs less than a 6 month old. She has very soulful eyes that show so much sadness. One of the nurses blows up balloons and tries to get Abeer to play but she sadly has no energy. We all know that there are children starving every day but to see it brings my awareness to another level. Yes, this is hard to watch but I don't feel like real change can ever happen if we don't see the issue of world hunger. It shouldn't be so easy to turn away from. I will be forever changed by watching this movie and I will be donating to children in need. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/11/22 Full Review Audience Member Exploitative. Gives zero context into what's going on in Yemen and instead makes you watch children die on-screen to guilt you into giving it a good score. Donate instead of wasting your time here.
