william d I'm a big fan of courtroom dramas and this one does not disappoint. Plus, there is the added bonus of learning about Japanese criminal procedure; even though I have no idea how accurate the depiction is I found it very interesting nonetheless. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review flixster f The makers must have been quite daring to create such a film bearing remarkable characteristics like: --> having a plot where you know in advance where it's gonna end before the movie even begins --> script involving a paper-thin plot --> no usual family drama or romantic story or some action thriller ---> above all, making it run beyond 135 minutes!!! I guess the movie was made so long so that one can realize how long the suffering is. Maybe for the same reason, the title is "Soredemo boku wa yattenai" instead of short and suitable 99.99%. If you don't know how the legal system works, this critical approach may provide you some insight. Sometimes the miscarriage of justice can be justified because the "reasonable doubt" simply can't be verified exactly. The actors pitch in a decent performance managing to not let it get loud & soapy, but IMO the movie didn't need to be this long to make its point. Yet having said that, I wasn't awfully bored by it, and found it a watchable fare for myself. That may not be the general opinion, of course. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Unlike previous movies directed by Msayuki Suo, this movie is highly serious and heavy. It sarcastically uncover the risk of "unfairness" of the legal system (in Japan) that judge oneself to "€œguilty" until one can "prove oneself innocent"€. The movie is having a lots of court scenes, and a bit quite long and bored. However, it is worth watching and make me think a lot after walking out the cinema. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Lots and lots of talk...but all of them are very interesting & engaging. A deep look into the legal system of Japan. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member A great film about how Japan's legal system basically assumes you are guilty until proven innocent. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member One of the most interesting films I've ever seen, i gotta say. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Read all reviews
