isla s This is certainly a suitably spooky film, with a decent Scandi noir feel to it. Expect hushed dialogue, edgy background 'music'/sounds, a feeling of distrust and darkly lit scenes and the like. I found myself second guessing upcoming plot elements - there are maybe one or two cliches but it's a pretty good film overall regardless. I thought that Freyr (the main male character, trying to get to the bottom of what happened) was an interesting character - the performance by Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson being quite good. I suppose it was relatively atmospheric too, although it's not a film I'd particularly want to re-visit but it's a decent enough film, so I suppose I'd recommend it on that basis, yes. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Ethan T Neither scary nor thrilling, I Remember You is a dull affair with limp scares and a poor twist. Never have I experienced such a dry film convinced of its efficacy in every way. The acting is one of the film's better pieces, but the English translation and general plotting seem incomprehensible, something that would perhaps be more easily followed knowing Icelandic rather than relying upon subtitles but still risible. The conjoined storylines might have been a decent idea but fall apart when the audience bears such little interest in the big reveal at the end. The film attempts to stretch quite a simple ghost story to feature length, so the exposition seems shoehorned in and fails to really build any interesting characters. Some of the camera work also seems distracting as another case of handheld being overused to the point of self-ridicule. Despite a few decent moments of atmosphere building and a passable Johanneson in the main role, this one is best left forgotten. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 10/02/21 Full Review Audience Member Unpredictable and haunting, one to remember. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member It's a ghost story with added relationship issues. The people are well played and reasonable, the story moves along. Not too scary, not too deep into the characters, but a nice little ghost story. Great visuals of Iceland - great in the sense you get a feeling for what it is like there, which is something I enjoy. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review andy f Despite being quite a classy Icelandic movie, if you've seen any Scandinavian detective series in recent years (The Killing etc.) then this is nothing new. Confusing in places and with spooky touches but sadly this treads a tired path already.
