Synopsis
As Walter Goldberg (Malcolm McDowell) is getting ready to lead his orchestra in a series of new performances, he is suddenly unable to conduct. The head of the opera (Francis Lemaire), distraught that his star has become unhinged, urges Walter to explain what is happening. Walter then unburdens himself about his past, and tells of meeting another man (Charles Aznavour) in Italy when both were fleeing the Nazis. The tale touches on revelations about long-buried secrets and assumed identities.
