R G Excellent WW11 movie without the war. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/26/23 Full Review Steve D Cotten is not up to the task but everyone else is. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/30/23 Full Review s r I saw this since I read about it in my TCM Christmas Classics book. This was an ambitious plot taking on issues like PTSD, sexual abuse, social stigmas and women criminals. It was a little dated and at times not too believable, but it still has a powerful message and an unusual ending. I appreciated the Christmas focus and the good natured characters involved. It was on Youtube. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I loved this movie--The characters were vulnerable, and the cast was excellent. I even cried at the end. It's an old-fashioned tear jerker. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member I'LL BE SEEING YOU (1944) will, for once and for all, change all perceptions of Hollywood during WWII. This very adult, mature and touching film deals with a soldier suffering from PTSD and a woman on furlough from prison for the holiday season. Devoid of all sentimentality, I'LL BE SEEING YOU deals frankly with the impact of war on soldiers while equally dealing with the hardships facing Americans during the war and in particular the plight of women, not as they wait for their men to return but as they are exploited both for labor and sex. What's perhaps best about I'LL BE SEEING YOU is that it stays clear of easy plot points and conflicts you may expect and instead paints a portrait of sadness and hardship but simultaneously the true and right way we humans should behave. Simply stellar! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member A bit overblown of romantic melodrama about budding romance between Ginger Rogers and retuning GI Joseph Cotten. The drama is that she's hiding from Cotten that she's a recently released ex-con and he is hiding that he has PTSD. Cotton seems miscast as a romantic lead, not to mention that Ginger Rogers is completely out of his league. William Dieterle took over direction for George Cukor. Maybe the film would have been better if Cukor finished the film. Shirley Temple plays Rogers' teenage sister, which is fun to see her in a transition from child star to more mature roles. David Selznick produced the film, but it's nowhere as good at his best films. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
