Sean Tepper Globe and Mail Although it mostly falls flat, I'll Follow You Down does deliver an ending that serves as a satisfying payoff. Rated: 1/4 Jun 20, 2014 Full Review Linda Barnard Toronto Star Ponderous in spots and not as smoothly crafted as it could be, I'll Follow You Down is also held back by Osment's performance, which never seems comfortable or convincing ... Rated: 2/4 Jun 19, 2014 Full Review Simon Abrams Village Voice Writer-director Richie Mehta's characters aren't especially thoughtful. Like their creator, they make massive leaps in logic before they do anything. Jun 3, 2014 Full Review MaryAnn Johanson Flick Filosopher Indie science fiction with a rare humanism, a scientific and emotional mystery with a solution Hollywood wouldn't dare go anywhere near. Mar 2, 2015 Full Review David Nusair Reel Film Reviews ...a disappointingly half-baked endeavor that feels, for the most part, like a padded-out episode of The Outer Limits. Rated: 1.5/4 Jul 7, 2014 Full Review Chris Knight National Post I'll Follow You Down is the thinking person's time travel tale, a philosophical drama that poses a what-if question that carries surprising emotional heft. nick s I think this ultimately suffers from being just another time travel movie; a genre that's been done to death. Lacking the style and excitement of Back To The Future, this is a serious, plodding also-ran. Joel's character reacted a bit strangely to situations at times, though Joels acting was okay. Gillian Anderson was great in her role. I didn't click it was her. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/30/24 Full Review Karen H This is the kind of movie that you could do something like cook, clean your kitchen while it played in the background and not miss anything. It's way boring to actually sit down and watch it. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 12/18/23 Full Review Jacob K I'm fascinated by time and a sucker for time travel movies. This is a breakout time travel movie as far as I'm concerned. Erol is convinced that anything stable, stable because of the nature and character of persons living their lives as they ought to be lived, will not be affected by his effort to correct the death of his father. Most time travel movies have little sense of the reality of persons or the stability of relationships. There is a time as time should be for those living through it. Life is not nearly so arbitrary as we now think of it. Excellently conceived movie. It seems to me that the negative reviews are based on the reviewer's false contemporary assumptions about time and how life can be lived. I'm looking for anything Richie Mehta does. I had already seen Amal and it's an even more impressive film than this one. I signed up for Rottentomatoes especially to review this picture. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/12/23 Full Review Mitchel Y I'm reviewing movies while unbelievably high. This is my first watch of the journey, unreal. Fantastic movie, suspenseful, emotional, great ending. You have to watch if you enjoy mind bending. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/01/23 Full Review Gunn W The 'I see dead people' kid and 'Scully' really shined in this movie! OK, so, it's a little slow at the beginning, but that's how you have to start with any type of intellectual movie. It's important to make the characters real to the audience, as well as describing things like possible time travel (the professor talks about traveling through a wormhole etc.). Once the basics are established, then it's the work to research the science to see if it works? Yet, it's the (roughly 25ish) son doing the research. When he was 7, his father just didn't come home one day - no one seems to know why - what happened to him, was he murdered, etc. etc. The only way to find out is for the son to follow his father, where he may die as well? Who knows? The ending is WONDERFUL!! Coming from the 'I see dead people' kid, he has now starred in 2 movies with mind-blowing endings. Great job! RECOMMENDATION: WATCH THIS!! If you like intellectual thrillers with a bit of sci-fi, this will become one of your top 10 favorites - I promise you!!!!
