Audience Member It's hard to feel sorry for him considering how he acted before he got jailed... he was just a rebellious egotistical punk, I never really felt that sorry for him during the movie, the ending the parents acted like he was a hero and a survivor.. The movie obviously challenges the fact teenagers getting put in prison and how they shouldn't be treated like that... I Disagree... 2 stars for the acting and realism... but in the end it's just a propaganda movie to make it seem unjustified teens can be put in jail no matter how crazy they are... Teens are smart enough to realize what is right and wrong. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member BTW--Jimmy carter was president then--no wonder there was so much unemployment and there is now with B.O. as president. Doesn't liberal Martin Sheen get this????????? Carter was a p.o.s.--and so is B.O. p.u. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member not bad 4 a made for TV movie in the eighties. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member "If my boy breaks the law he's gonna have to take the punishment. You keep him down there for the night on." For teenager Danny Caldwell, life at home with his father is very unhappy but there's a party-hardy, hell-raising life for him. He spent on one night of drunkenness until luck ran out for him during his arrest. Then he lands himself in jail which leads to a nightmare of entanglement in a bureaucratic prison system. It's a shocking look at the brutality that passes for justice when a young kid finds himself in the custody of strangers. A movie so interesting to see that even it would escape from obscurity by bloggers and others who are old enough to remember this when they were around on its television broadcast on June 1, 1982. Although I wasn't even born five years later at least I may be one of the few younger people who knows this one. I happened to have run across this title on television and was appealed by its storyline with a tone so dramatic that even juveniles like Danny had experienced the harshness of prison time. Emilio Estevez does his acting performance so impressive that he has a real good bad boy look on him while having a rocky relationship with his onscreen (and real-life) father Martin Sheen. Overall, I can say that In The Custody Of Strangers is a great dramatic television movie that perfectly portrayed how a juvenile could survive in a rough prison system. As a title released back in the early '80s but forgotten nowadays anyone who was around at that time might rediscover this, and for anyone who has never seen it they it would be worth checking out.
