Richard W If you are a fan of Sherlock Holmes stories and you want to see an interesting variation of it, then you must see In The Moscow Slums. It is adapted from the Arthur Conan Doyle's story "The Sign of the Four," But uses characters from Russia's actual history, journalist Vladimir Gilyarovsky and theater director Konstantin Stanislavski. It is mostly set in a notorious area of Moscow called the Khitrovka district to replace the Whitechapel area of London. The art decoration in this film can only be described as stunning. The real Khitrovka district was demolished and replaced with Gorky Park years ago. So they recreated it for the film. Had I not been told this, I would have assumed it was shot entirely on locations that had been around for a hundred years. When the film was over my wife said to me, "I would really like to see more stories with these characters." And I agree. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/24/25 Full Review Read all reviews
