João R --------------------------------------------------------------- SPOILER ALERT --------------------------------------------------------------- I have mixed feelings about this one. On the one hand it's unusual for the good guys to lose the fight, on the other I cannot recall a single time I've rooted for the invading aliens. "GO HUMANKIND EXTERMINATING ALIENS! GO!" The main problem with this movie as far I'm concerned is the plot itself, it's been done and overdone to the point of becoming a charcoal briquette. Although the different approach attempted by our villains seemed like it might wield some interesting twist, it turned out to be a case of lazy aliens. They just didn't want the hassle of having to planetform earth too much after getting rid of us. I'd rather have watched the making of that decision by the aliens. ------------------ Alien 1: Alright, here's the plan. We go in, with our enormous, interstellar capable mothership, which we will, for no reason whatsoever, call "the Hive", blast them all, and take their planet. Alien 2: It's always the same with you. Blast this, blast that. Well I'm telling you now, I'm not cleaning up the Himalayas afterwards! Alien 1: But... Alien 2: No! Alien 1: (sullenly) Fine. We'll trick them into going into our ships peacefully. Alien 3: I just wanted people to know I'm in the scene. ------------------ There were a few plot points that had the potential to develop into something interesting but didn't, such as: (read the following with dramatic effect) after the president's injured son is healed by the aliens, only he is capable of turning the valve that stops everyone in the bunker from asphyxiating. Well, turning valve and pressing an enter key, you gotta have an enter key, but someone else pressed that. Anyway, after the turning of said valve and the pressing of said key, the boy's father looks at the valve in what seemed to be a moment of tension, but that led nowhere. I guess it was just a man looking at a valve. As one often does. Second nearly interesting plot point: The ships once filled with humans go up to the mothership, leave the mothership, jettison the people in the ship into space, oh yeah the aliens are evil, and return to earth for a refill. BUT WHY DO THEY FIRST GO TO THE MOTHERSHIP? (If you didn't read that last sentence with the inflection of "Won't somebody please think of the children?", you should) So the plot twist is.... They can use our blood as fuel for their ship. Yup. Remember when I told you they're evil? Oh, no! They're SUPER evil. All in all, I've seen worse, I've seen better, I still want to know why the mothership is called the Hive. That did lead to one of the characters at one point calling it beehive, which I could swear was a slip-up. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/08/24 Full Review Rick B Absoloute rubbish. A cheap rip off of the 1996 film Independence day. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 09/28/22 Full Review Audience Member I wish I had never this movie. Not worth a minute of your time. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member I only watched the movie only once and I can say that the plot was, well, somewhat plausible. However, what really destroyed the movie for me was the fact that the actors who portrayed military officers either didn't wear any rank insignia or wore the wrong insignia. Case in point is the Army general who is wearing the insignia of a 2nd lieutenant (shoulder straps) throughout the movie. Then there's Captain Goddard who isn't wearing any insignia at all. The same applies to the major (wearing camo). He's not wearing the gold leaf insignia either on his uniform or his cap. I need to watch the movie again to see if I can spot more errors. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Ye gods. I need to set a limit to how late at night I surf Amazon Prime looking for sci-fi I haven't seen. This was so awful. Almost a parody, but it was humorless. Really bad script, really bad acting, really bad editing of all things. Yikes. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member I actually quite liked this movie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
