After being transferred from juvenile to adult prison, Mel Blight (Vincent Miller) is taken under the wing of both Mark Shepard (Cosmo Jarvis), Australia's most despised criminal, and Warren Murfett (Guy Pearce), a soon to be paroled inmate. Dennis Harvey Variety A strongly acted piece that compels attention despite the occasional murky plot point. Jun 20, 2025 Full Review David Ehrlich IndieWire “Inside” is a small and constrained prison drama, even by the inflexible standards of its genre, and yet Williams’ debut is so replete with such moments of raw compassion that it almost invisibly accumulates a deep well of emotion. Rated: B+ Jun 11, 2025 Full Review David Rooney The Hollywood Reporter The superbly acted drama yields rewards, making astute observations about mental health, inherited trauma, self-determination and absent or unfixable fathers. Jun 10, 2025 Full Review Julian Roman MovieWeb Inside pulls no punches depicting the darkness and cutthroat instincts needed to survive incarceration. Guy Pearce and Cosmo Jarvis deliver deeply affecting and layered performances. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 23, 2025 Full Review Charles Johnston Spectrum Culture A deeply moving character study that examines how three prisoners view themselves and whether they’re deserving or even capable of redemption. Jun 23, 2025 Full Review Carla Hay Culture Mix Inside is similar to other gritty prison dramas, such as Bronson and Starred Up, where the performances are better than the absorbing but flawed screenplays. Redemption and punishment are open to interpretation. Jun 20, 2025 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Powerful and Oscar worthy! One of the best movies I’ve seen this year. Full of life lessons and life changing experiences. Absolutely must see! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/27/25 Full Review Malgorzata S A knockout; unnervingly “authentic”. Just be aware that the most didactic are omissions. I would call it the best film ever made by the British colonial settlers of Australia. Consistently with their nature, they avoided to show a single Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander face. The First Nations are 3.8% of the Australian population yet account for 37% of all persons in custody. This fact has been shown in Songs Inside, 2024, by Nancy Bates, but omitted in Inside. Similarly concerning is the lack of recognition of the inmates’ work in Inside. Do go and see it. Just do not wonder what country it's depicting.
