jen C What a waste of my life. I expected a simple scary half decent stalker movie but this was not even watchable. Now I paid for this and I forced myself to watch it because you hope its a slow burn. There was no clear beginning, middle or end. No tension. The scnes needed major editing. I had no interest in the half baked characters. Even bad horrors can be watchable but without tension or a good story line you have nothing. Avoid like The Plague.scary horror because its not hard to make something half decent regarding a stalker it will generally be scary and a simple watch. There is awful. Zero tension. Needs editing. Bad acting. Terrible story. Ropey dialogue. I only enjoyed the dated horror music but it was so badly put together I can only imagine they used the music because they realised theyd made a turkey. I just don't understand how such a thing gets released. Even worse at the end there is no pay off. Im so unbothered. It has no place calling this a horror when you cant flinch and get a minor scare. This had nothing going for it. Please don't be a fool and pay for this like me. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/22/23 Full Review Audience Member Travis Zawiny's Intruder, though it is a truly creepy film, falls short of what it could have been. It is a home invasion film, my personal favorite genre. These types of films always have the potential to be incredibly scary, as the notion of "home" no longer being a safe place is a terrifying thought at that. Plot: The main character is a cellist by the name of Elizabeth (Louise Linton) who has just landed a spot on the London Philharmonic for the summer. To celebrate, she decides to treat herself to a nice weekend alone in her apartment. Little does she know, an intruder has slipped his way into her apartment and plans on spending the weekend with her apparently. The Good: The film has a strong opening scene. It starts out with a girl named Emily alone in her house on the phone talking with a friend. The power goes out, there's a few minutes of walking around and being stalked, and then she gets strangled by a killer who had evidently entered her house at some point. So right off the bat, we know that a killer is on the loose in the area and the audience is spooked by the brutal murder the movie opens with. The movie did a lot of good with the intruder himself. The perpetrator is shown entering Elizabeth's apartment in the background while she goes to take out the garbage and obliviously leaves her door opened, so now the audience knows how the man gets inside. Besides that, the perpetrator (unidentified until the movie's end) is shown in the background numerously, snooping and stalking around, hiding in closets, rearranging minor things around the house, and even eating food. All of this is going on without Elizabeth's knowledge that someone has broken into her apartment and is essentially just there living with her and watching her every move. This is the film's strongest element; the stalking and creeping around of the intruder was very well done. It keeps tension high as the audience never knows when he might finally decide to make his move. The music was another strength. Very creepy and well-suited for this type of movie. The stormy setting added to the scary tone of the film too. The movie was also held together by Louise Linton's strong acting performance and because of the fact that she served as a perfect vulnerable victim to the perpetrator; she was perfectly oblivious to everything going on around her pretty much at all times. The Bad: The main let-down for me with this film was the ending. I'm not really giving much away by saying this, but there are actually several different people that the intruder/killer could be; three people in particular. Plot twist: The most obvious of the three ends up being the criminal. And then they rewind through all the stalking scenes to show the perpetrator's face, as if it's some big reveal. Well, it's not! It was totally expected! I personally feel like there were different ways that the ending could have been twisted to surprise the audience; make the perpetrator someone less obvious. Unfortunately, this film does not do that! Also, there was one murder scene that absolutely should have been bloody as all hell which was not. And there's a point in the film where Elizabeth's reaction to something was just not what it should have been. But maybe that just goes back to her being completely oblivious to her surroundings, which is kind of her role in this film. So as much as I'd like to love this film and give it a great overall review, the predictability of the plot and the lack of logical sense in some of the scenes brings this film down. I think Elizabeth's obliviousness is just way overdone and unrealistic at points. The Strangers still remains my top favorite home invasion film of all time. BOTTOM LINE: A creepy home invasion film that might be worth the watch, but don't expect a plot full of twists and turns. Not that kind of movie. This is really cut and dry. OVERALL: 2.5/5; C+ Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member What trash. This oblivious unlikable useless woman (who literally cannot change a light bulb) walks around her apartment for 90 minutes while bad guy watches her from various closets. Then she sneezes, he says bless you, and the movie abruptly ends. The only reason I was still watching because I was hoping she would die. Worst movie of the decade. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Whether you're in the mood for a good thrill or a mystery, this will give you chills and a surprising ending. This movie definitely captures every woman's worst nightmare. The light humor and wit kept the film exciting and light. Perfect movie on a rainy night, cuddled up with someone warm, who won't intrude... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm a sucker for stalker and home invasion films, so I went into this one with some real excitement. That excitement, however, was short-lived. Almost the entire movie consisted of the stalker walking up behind the main protagonist and her almost seeing him. Over and over and over again. The first few times it happened, it was suspenseful. But after that, the shtick wore out its welcome. That didn't stop the filmmakers from doing it more, however. Just a boring film from start to finish. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
