Sight & Sound A film lacking Herzog's USP -- an ironic and regressive sense of the irreducible power of images -- 'Invincible' feels as though it has been devised by a scholar steeped in Herzog lore, but who at some crucial early stage mistook him for Istvan Szabo. Sep 28, 2006 Full Review Michael Phillips Chicago Tribune There's a sugar coating to the way Papale's story unfolds, but not so much that you'll spoil your dinner. Rated: 3/4 Sep 16, 2006 Full Review Bill Muller Arizona Republic Even Papale's most famous play, recovering a fumble to set up a touchdown, is embellished, as if Disney can't bear to stick with the facts. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 25, 2006 Full Review Thomas Delapa Boulder Weekly By the time Papale does make it the big game, it's as if the air goes out of the movie and all Core can do is punt. Rated: 2/4 Mar 29, 2024 Full Review Patrick Hicks Feelin' Film Podcast Even through the sepia-toned sanitization of the Disney production, you can't help but like and root for Vince Papale. His story gives the economically struggling city of Philadelphia and their Eagles what they needed at the right time: Hope. Jace E FLY EAGLES FLY Just like Vince Papale, this movie has a ton of heart. A true underdog story, it's impossible to not root for this guy. Invincible checks all the boxes for the cliche sports movie, and I love it. Seeing the little boy with 83 taped to his back, pointing to his friends in the stadium, "Papale at the 40, the 30...", there are multiple moments that gave me the chills. While the stakes don't ever feel very high and the drama doesn't always pay off, this is a feel-good film that I could watch any Sunday with my family. Best Character: Janet Best Quote: When I told you not to get your hopes up... didn't mean that I wasn't." - Frank Papale Best Scene: The finale Rated 4 out of 5 stars 10/16/24 Full Review Dale R Based on the life of Vince Papale who was a player for the Philadelphia Eagles from 1976 to 1978 and starring Mark Wahlberg as Vince. This is an uplifting movie with a good performance from Mark Wahlberg. Greg Kinnear and Elizabeth Banks also do a good acting job, the rest of the cast is forgettable. There are some interesting uses of computer graphics in this movie as they portray real life football stars from the era, but never come so close to see their faces. I feel the finale is unique as it is about the second game of the season instead of a bigger game like the Super Bowl or an important game to the season. It does work well though. I think there is enough good stuff here to recommend a viewing. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Dan R A great family watch, a great NFL story, casting was fantastic. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/08/24 Full Review Regal R 80/100 - a solid film and a classic at that. mark whalberg plays the role well. almost on par with the film The Replacements, another football film starring Keanu Reeves. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/27/24 Full Review Harrison F Incredible movie, one of my favourite film of all time. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/07/24 Full Review Benjamin J A brilliant film, this film highlighted a true story of a young man's struggles with rising to greatness as a local lad and the difficulty in carrying the expectation of a whole town/city on his shoulders, it was subtle and didn't oversell a true story, one of my favourite sporting films based on a true story, recommended!
