J S I am not well versed in Chinese or HK cinema, but this movie makes me want to see more. I watched the 97 minute version and there are some pretty clumsy moments where the plot gets rushed through or glossed over. But I appreciate the richness and variety of characters—the writers expect a lot from the audience to keep track of all the subplots and motives for each prisoner. In that regard it’s engaging: you have to keep up compared to so many movies that move at a slower pace. There is also some clearly misleading marketing work at play—Jackie Chan is definitely not the eponymous Prisoner, but he’s probably the biggest star in the film as of this version’s release date. The film pulses primarily with themes of brotherly loyalties that develop through shared hardships—mostly guards vs prisoners—but also themes of systemic failures, justice, corruption, esprit d’corp, subterfuge, and violence. There are some great martial arts sequences but they are not emphasized the way you’d expect from a typical Jackie Chan movie. Overall it’s worth a wander through if you have the time. Tim Treakle Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Audience Member This is just a bad pirated version of Jackie Chan: My Story. The quality of this is horrible, and should be avoided. I would recommend checking out My Story and it's companion Jackie Chan: My Stunts. Flixster doesn't have either one of those listed, but they are available on DVD.
