Critics Consensus

Despite having a cast and crew of comedy all-stars on hand, Jackpot! provides little payout thanks to a puerile script and erratic pacing.

Elizabeth Weitzman TheWrap Feig's primary influences seem to be "Idiocracy," "The Purge," and Looney Tunes--and he is undoubtedly correct in assuming that this unholy mix will hit some people’s sweet spot. Sep 27, 2024 Full Review Craig Mathieson The Age (Australia) An action-comedy that lacks intoxicating fight scenes and genuine punchlines, this feature is less than the sum of its parts even as it turns Los Angeles’ make-or-break culture into a dystopian murder game. Rated: 2/5 Aug 23, 2024 Full Review Andrea Thompson Chicago Reader Another familiar dystopia wrings laughs thanks to a stellar cast. Aug 22, 2024 Full Review Samantha Schuster Cinéfilo Serial It may not be Paul Feige's best film, but it manages to entertain us thanks to the charismatic and chemistry-driven duo of Awkwafina and John Cena. And to a greater or lesser extent, the frenetic pace and the string of jokes work. Jay W The movie has an interesting and entertaining premise. Whoever wins the lottery gets a bounty on their head, and whoever kills them wins the money. John Cena makes a business of protecting the lottery winner. Awkwafina wins and hijinks ensue. Once that central conflict ensues, the movie feels like that is all they got. Scenes go on for way too long. You can feel the producers trying to stretch out a joke to meet some required runtime. The story is spread paper thin. The story does pick up towards the end with some extra twists and turns. Some of the twists don't make any sense once you think about it. But overall, the movie had a unique and fun premise, it has a handful of funny jokes and the people making it seemed like they were having a good time, and sometimes that is contagious. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 08/16/25 Full Review highA F. Jokes were corny, storyline was good. Good entertainment. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/05/25 Full Review Bill C While a cheesy movie, it is a lot of fun, and worth a watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/03/25 Full Review Austin G. nonsensical, cartoonish violence meets dystopian premise—without the dark and depressing atmosphere. a decent street-level action movie to watch on a week day at home, but don't expect the film to dig deeper than the primary plot. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/31/25 Full Review Nicholas W Its an action comedy with a silly premise. I loved every second. The choreographed fighting was some of the best. The jokes hit perfectly. Its 107 minutes of dumb fun and I loved it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/26/25 Full Review Tom M I'm being kind on this film because of the compelling comic presence of Awkwafina. To say this film holds a very silly premise is a wild understatement. It's good and funny until it tries to resolve itself. Then the mawkishness comes in and the wit dribbles out. It has its moments, though. Mostly in the first half. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 07/15/25 Full Review Read all reviews
