Russ G Just a 68 minute running time but prefaced by a ten or twelve minute travelogue before the story begins. The whole thing is implausible to anyone who knows the slightest things about ocean tides [approx 6 hours low to high, and not much difference at that latitude] and simple things like bouyancy of a wooden piling. The failure of the locals to respond to a simple plea for assistance with cash offered for the help makes the second half especially hard to swallow and I'm not buyin' the language barrier premise in that scene. The script writers couldn't decide whether they were crafting a survival drama or a crime noir so they did a mash-up. I skimmed through this in about 30 minutes and didn't miss anything. Adults will get the subplot; the wife prostituted herself to save her husband. Besides that, this quickie has nothing going for it though contemporary fans of Miss Stanwyck probably enjoyed it more than I did. I'm reading a lot of unfair criticism of the child actor in this - please, folks, give the kid a break! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/20/25 Full Review Kellye L I’m glad I didn’t pay attention to some of the reviews I read about this movie, because I found it to be very suspenseful and entertaining. Barbara Stanwyck is excellent in everything and the rest of the cast was also very good, even the little boy. So often child actors overact, but this boy was quite talented. I thought the ending was surprising, but maybe they were trying to show about redemption. Anyway, I highly recommend this movie! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/08/25 Full Review Bill B Odd that such a short movie takes so very long to get moving. Meeker is an interesting villain at first, but inexplicably changes character by the end. Just OK Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 04/22/24 Full Review Camille J I enjoyed several aspects of this film mainly Errol Flynn. To see Mr. Flynn in a straight and serious role was very refreshing. From what I have heard from film historians is that Mr. Flynn wanted to be more of a dramatic actor rather than an action hero in adventure films. In this story line his character kept the audience guessing almost up to the very end was he or wasn't he. Ms. Stanwyck always places her characters up front and centered. She never misses a beat. This film overall is suspenseful, and for a film that runs just little over an hour it is well worth your time watching it. The end is quite satisfying. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 08/22/23 Full Review j f Perhaps weakest plot ever, and still pretty darn good. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/12/23 Full Review Steve D A lot of filler for its meager runtime.
