Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 04/18/23 Full Review Pharmboy1603 The plot of this film is unique. Elgort hits the right balance of sadness and desperation. Give it a try. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/07/23 Full Review Audience Member Took me a while to find this on Rotten Tomatoes as the title on Prime Australia is actually Duplicate (not Jonathan). Interesting concept and it does explore some issues that make you think about the challenges faced by the main character(s) - felt like it spent too much time being "one-sided", but understand the reason for it. Was a little anti-climatic - I think they could've made the ending more dramatic to reflect the final conclusion to the struggle throughout the movie. Good acting made the story believable - it was worth watching - enough to keep me interested for 90mins. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Super interesting concept and storyline. I was intrigued at the beginning, and that feeling stayed with me the whole time. Ansel did a good job with this duality; the role of the doctor was also well played. I was not a huge fan of some of the film's downtime, it was a satisfying ending, though. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/11/22 Full Review Audience Member This movie was like a thought-provoking extended episode of Black Mirror. Worth watching. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member This film blew me away, so much so that I signed up on Rotten Tomatoes to give it the five stars it deserves. It's very low key and eerie, thanks in part to the music. I love the concept of two very different personalities sharing one body in shifts. It's a little like multiple personalities, except they're on a fixed schedule. The lead actor gives an amazing performance. I plan to watch it again asap. Currently available on Netflix. Glenn Kenny RogerEbert.com Ansel Elgort's wonderful performance does appropriate honor to the ambiguity the movie is trucking in. Rated: 3/4 Nov 16, 2018 Full Review Ben Kenigsberg New York Times The movie, itself somewhat torn in sensibility, permits itself an easy out. Nov 15, 2018 Full Review Cary Darling Houston Chronicle This intriguing and skillfully wrought indie science-fiction tale has the feel of a low-key "Black Mirror" episode. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 15, 2018 Full Review Tori Brazier Flickering Myth Jonathan never goes much beyond its beginning, despite the unsurprising development of a struggle between the two consciousnesses. Rated: 2/5 Mar 25, 2021 Full Review Leigh Monson Substream Magazine Jonathan winds up being such a bore that its late-game competency doesn't carry it over the finish line. Rated: 2/5 Sep 24, 2020 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue By the final act, the execution can't match the ambition. There are too many unanswered questions, and the characters maintain a frustrating emotional distance. Nov 30, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews
