Mosaic R @highhammy99 Jul 12 Honestly, I was looking forward to a movie about Julia Child, focusing on her journey with cooking but this movie felt incredibly conflicted. The two joined stories of Julia Child and Julie are like two different qualities of movies. Half the movie is an almost-interesting period piece that lacks detail and the other half is a sub-standard romcom with pretty dry, stiff acting. Julie's character is pretty unlikable and hard to watch, especially her being outright cruel to her husband/the lobsters. There's pretty clear attempts by the writers to draw parallels between Julia and Julie except they didn't make Julie's story interesting and anything to be invested in. The movie is also long and meandering with a SPOILER last minute break-up-fake-out near the end. Mid, cannot recommend, unfortunately. Stick with clips of the Meryl Streep parts online. Most of the movie's acting is poor outside of the Julia Child half. Meryl Streep is outstanding as Julia Child, bringing charm, humor, and larger-than-life energy that makes her scenes a joy to watch. Amy Adams also delivers a grounded and relatable performance as Julie, capturing the frustrations and small victories of trying to find purpose in everyday life. The film’s tone is light but sincere, with food acting as both inspiration and emotional expression throughout. As Nora Ephron’s final film, it carries an added layer of warmth and reflection on creativity, passion, and living fully through what you love. Overall, i'd gave it a 7/10. Centered around a young food blogger attempting to recreate recipes of the chef she idolizes, it's a two-hour foodfest. It's just as exciting, intriguing and funny as a cooking channel, only with Amy Adams and Merryl Streep thrown into the mix. I honestly don't know who would find this an enjoyable watch, unless you're a 70-year-old upper middle-class housewife. Personally, I think I'd have more fun watching the grass grow.
