donnie m i'm always looking for a movie i haven't seen and watched this tonight-i really enjoyed it-Rose Byrne was great as Annie Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/26/24 Full Review KB B I'd never heard of this one but I'm glad I did. Ethan Hawke and Rose Byrne were both exceptional. It's worth the watch. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/15/24 Full Review David Lee K "Juliet, Naked" is a rather amusing romcom that hits all the right notes... and some wrong ones too. The quirky world of awkward love, seventies music, and a few unexpected connections, make it a must-see for anyone who can enjoy a romantic comedy with a twist. The very charming performances and witty dialogue will leave you laughing and tapping your feet along to the catchy soundtrack. Despite the strong characters, the adaptation falls a bit short in delivering the same wit and authenticity that made the book such a delightful read, but in the end it doesn't disappoint. If you have the chance to see this flick, make sure you don't miss it! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/16/24 Full Review HG H I couldn't help but fall in love with the movie more and more it went one. So much so that as soon as it ended, I was disappointed I wouldn't get to see the duo leads interact one more time. A great time. Totally underrated British rom-com. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/11/24 Full Review Jeff M As a romantic comedy non-fan, it is with much surprise and delight that I found myself utterly won over by the charms of this picture. While it doesn't reinvent the wheel, it nevertheless succeeds admirably in bringing a fresh perspective to many of the cliches of the genre we've come to know and love (or loathe). Thankfully, it is blessed to have two totally winning lead performers who create a remarkably relaxed and comfortable relationship with one another. I must admit that I didn't feel a lot of sexual tension between them, but it almost works in this case as there's a maturity between these two that many romantic comedies lack. Hawke is fabulous here, and it's nice to see him in a lighter role. And Byrne is at the point in her career where she can seemingly do no wrong - she is luminous. Their rapport and commitment to the material provides a realism that transcends the basic implausibility of the plot. It took me a bit of time to warm up to O'Dowd, a comedic actor I usually respond to quite well. I don't know if it was the character or the performance or what, but his energy just seemed a little bit off. That being said, his middle-aged infatuation with Hawke's character made me feel a bit less embarrassed about my own 40 year infatuation with a certain actress. Throughout the whole movie, I often had some NOTTING HILL vibes, which is very high praise indeed, as I consider that one of my personal gold standards of the genre. And the ending couldn't have been better! All in all, it's a lovely little movie with an unfortunately questionable title which makes it sound like an altogether different movie than it actually is. And again, Byrne and Hawke work splendidly together and make us care about them individually and together. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/21/24 Full Review Steve D A mixed bag but more fun then not. Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review It's a great triumph of the film that while you're watching it you don't think, oh that's a ridiculous contrivance... Nov 6, 2018 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) Byrne and Hawke, both easygoing, naturalistic performers at their best when they barely seem to be acting, have an utterly persuasive connection. Rated: 4/5 Nov 4, 2018 Full Review Donald Clarke Irish Times There are truths about the lies we tell ourselves. It ends very satisfactorily, but dares to leave at least one narrative thread dangling conspicuously. Rated: 4/5 Nov 2, 2018 Full Review Elissa Suh Moviepudding Hawke also performs a solo version of “Waterloo Sunset” that makes this rom-com worth your time. May 25, 2023 Full Review M.N. Miller Ready Steady Cut Of all of Hornby’s works, Juliet, Naked is by far handled with the most care. Lightly funny while packed with melancholy along the way. Rated: 4/5 Aug 16, 2022 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review A pleasant, often funny, and quietly charming indie alternative to the hyperactive comedies and overwrought romances usually distributed today.
