Audience Member For all the slapstick comedies he directs in bollywood, he comes up with some sensible movies down south. This Priyadarshan movie is one of those. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member Slow to begin, once the themes of comradeship, honour and family prevail this becomes quite a poignant and ultimately saddening representation of village life in mid 20tth century India. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member If you think Priadarshan is all about silly movies like Bhagam Bhaag, kHatta meetha, Herapheri etc .....See this one A very simple heart touching story revolving around a Silk Saree. Beautifully directed by Priadarshan. I urge you to watch this art house classic!! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm surprised that the movie that won best film of 2008 in all of Indian cinema has so few ratings and no rotten tomato reviews. I saw this movie at the Adelaide International Film Festival and thought it brilliantly captures the villagers of India in the time of the British Raj. The emotional journey of a father, a silk weaver, trying to create a silk dress for his daughters wedding day and how alluring the ideals of communism could be were remarkable. This film is in stark contrast to all other Indian cinema, it was no wholesome film about song and dance of rich NRI, it was a heartfelt drama that most of the 1billion people of India can relate to. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member well shot, i thought the script was a little predictable though, at many points. prakash raj, as usual does very well. worth a watch.
