Audience Member Fun big-ish budget reboot of the little TV series that could, at least as far as Hawaii was concerned, "Kikaida". If, like me, you used to watch it on KIKU all those decades ago, you've pro'ly already bought your ticket to this. It was a nice nod to the 40 year old series to have Ban do a cameo and some (older than me) audience members laughed at the "Yellow Magic Orchestra" joke and Jiro's attempts at humor--that went over my head, apparently it plays better to Japanese nationals. The revamped Kikaider (and Hakkaider, he looked fantastic) costumes were cool, the fight scenes reminded me of the wire fu/"Matrix"y stuff in "Godzilla: Final Wars", although much less cheap looking. Overlong, more than a little melodramatic, but worthy. "SWWWEECH ON!" Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member So this past Friday I was able to attend the North American premiere of the Kikaider Reboot. It was worth the airplane ride there and I thought it was a very interesting new take on the franchise. The fight scenes carry the film, which were choreographed well, but at some points it didnâ??t quite feel like they flowed easy. Scenes where Jiro/Kikaider were interacting with Dr. Kohmyojiâ??s son Masaru were cute, humane and heart-felt. There was some plot holes here and there, the story was a little weak, but the underlying theme of just being able to empathize with others, and putting someone elseâ??s needs and wants before our own came through loud and clear. I felt the direction the makers of this film is the right one to take and they are on the right path. Thereâ??s enough of the old series nostalgia in there to keep old fans pleased and enough modern cinema to attract fans from a new generation. I enjoyed this film just as much as other bigger Hollywood films so thatâ??s why Iâ??ll give it a 7/10. The film is 110 minutes long and as a heads up it is in Japanese but subtitled in English.
