Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review Audience Member A short but memorable stop motion. With unique puppets, sets and one hell of a screwed up ending. Watch it! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Amazingly dark and expressionistic take on the tale of the Pied Piper. Brilliant animation. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Now here's a film, Czech director Jiri Barta's 1985 wood-animation, that has definite structure, clear style, and a meaningful story (a revisioning of a classic revenge tale). Barta rewards his viewers with thoughtful images, sounds and daring moments, such as the climax where the Pied Piper dashes past Gothic-looking buildings underscored by metal music. Edgy and darkly satisfying. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/25/23 Full Review Audience Member Una version oscura y para nada edulcorada de El flautista de Hamelin Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member This excellent dark short is one of Jiri Barta's 8 shorts available on the "Labyrinth of Darkness" anthology. The shorts are his entire filmography from 1978 - 89, one of which isn't added on IMDb's database yet, seven of which aren't added on Flixster's database yet (I'll ask the admins and MAYBE they'll be added). Until they get added the other shorts will only be spoken about but they'll definitely be elaborated on eventually since I have so much to say about this genius stop-motion animator. About this short: It's about a rat-infested materialistic town. It's funny, not for kids (My niece got scared), and entertaining. See it and be amazed, damn't.
