Critics Consensus

Lady and the Tramp's cute dogs and likable cast work well enough, but the live-action update lacks some of the magic that made the original 1955 film such a delight.

Robbie Collin Daily Telegraph (UK) It's impossible to shake the sense that the film exists primarily to tick itself off the studio's own to-do list. Rated: 2/5 Nov 28, 2020 Full Review Clarisse Loughrey Independent (UK) It's less a faithful translation of an animated classic than a nostalgic throwback to the era of Babe and Homeward Bound. Rated: 3/5 Mar 31, 2020 Full Review James White Empire Magazine This Tramp doesn't really stamp a fresh personality on a story already told well. But it also doesn't embarrass itself compared to the original and it's got a shaggy charm of its own. Rated: 3/5 Mar 25, 2020 Full Review Serena Seghedoni Loud and Clear Reviews Live action movie Lady and the Tramp (2019) is a successful retelling of Disney's classic story and an affectionate tale about growing up. Rated: 4.5/5 Oct 22, 2023 Full Review Cory Woodroof For the Win (USA Today) It’s sweet enough to work, and dogs are great so that’s always a plus. May 27, 2023 Full Review Maia Rose But Why Tho? A Geek Community Relatable really is the theme of the whole movie with old Trusty (Sam Elliot)...and Jim Dear and Darling having to deal with judgey relatives...Between that and the goodness that is dogs, Lady and the Tramp (2019) makes for a fun family watch. Audience Member This movie is simply garbage with the exception of 1 or 2 nice moments Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/26/24 Full Review Emily B I was really excited to watch this when it first came out. It wasn't as good as the original, but it was still good. I will give it a 6.5/10 Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/02/24 Full Review Dale R A live-action remake of the 1955 animated film and part of the new content for the Disney+ release. The voice cast for the animals of this film is spot on and wonderfully done. The live actors I think played their parts a little over the top, especially Yvette Nicole Brown who plays Aunt Sarah. I understand why they had to change the “Siamese Cat Song”, but its replacement, “What a Shame”, isn’t the ear worm the original was. Janelle Monae nails Peg and I really enjoyed her version of “He’s a Tramp”, but the animation for Peg felt off or did they use a puppet? I also missed seeing the film from the perspective of the dogs, but I guess they had to show the actors faces. Not much of an improvement from the original film, so if you enjoy the original or like dogs, this might be worth a watch. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Adrian E HOW DARE YOU DISNEY!!!! Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/03/24 Full Review Purple F Is my childhood movie.. but as always Disney changes it.. Jock is a boy changed it to a girl.. like wtf?! Thru need to do better&follow the story. 🙄 Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 12/18/23 Full Review matthias s "Disney's live-action adaptation of 'Lady and the Tramp' offers a delightful twist on a beloved classic. I'm not quite sure why it hasn't received more love, as it's a charming film with a mix of real dogs and impressive CGI work that brings the furry protagonists to life. The cast is stellar, and the chemistry between Tessa Thompson and Justin Theroux, who voice Lady and Tramp, is palpable. Their performances add depth and authenticity to the characters. The iconic spaghetti dinner scene is beautifully reimagined in live action, capturing the same magic as the original animated version. The soundtracks are a nostalgic treat, invoking the classic Disney vibes we all know and love. This movie stands out as one of Disney's better live-action adaptations, and it's a testament to the studio's ability to modernize timeless stories. While it may not be a perfect five-star film, 'Lady and the Tramp' is a solid 3.5-star flick. It entertained me, and I appreciated the efforts put into this live-action gem.
