      Critics Consensus

Landline's talented cast -- and a fast-paced approach from director/co-writer Gillian Robespierre -- help this charming multi-generational dramedy overcome a familiar storyline.

Gareth v A solid yet unspectacular family drama. The cast are good and do there best with this conventional story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/22/23 Full Review Audience Member It's as if Woody Allen directed Parenthood. And it's utterly entertaining Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Serge L Rarely do we see a film so realistic that we wonder if the lines are improvised. Very well acted with a comedic and dramatic story. These are the adventures of the almost married woman with interventions from her sister and her parents. Modern but happening in the 90s. Already a millennium ago. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/22 Full Review jaime h Thoroughly enjoyable NYC indie by one of the best indie auteurs in the biz! Funny, evocative, deep... Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Outstanding coming of age story Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member While I enjoyed the performances from this talented cast, I walked away with mixed messages on the film's position on cheating in relationships. I liked individual scenes, but ultimately couldn't get behind [SPOILER] the Jenny Slate cheating plotline. Her chemistry with the man she has an affair with is electric, so much so that even though I supported her revelation that he was not the one for her, her return to her boring passionless relationship left something to be desired. Particularly in a film that is about the affect of her father's affair on their family. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review Just NO to this kind of thing. Amateurish movies are one thing, but you start putting A-list people in... Oct 20, 2020 Full Review Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com Landline gets what makes people tick, doesn't shy from reveling in the good, bad and ugly as well as all the gradations hiding in the various grey areas. Rated: 3/4 Aug 11, 2017 Full Review Katie Walsh Tribune News Service "Landline," at times, feels a bit inert, that it's coasting on the novelty of '90s nostalgia without justifying that choice, and allowing those references to stand in for actual propulsive storytelling and jokes. Aug 11, 2017 Full Review Elissa Suh Moviepudding A family portrait of dysfunction never goes the extra mile. There are light shadings of infidelity, coming of age, female arrested development, and lots of sex that just sits there. Feb 16, 2023 Full Review Michael J. Casey Michael J.
