Audience Member A film stuntman tries to patch up his relationship with his stuntwoman ex-fiance. This guy is not on the level of a Grant Page. More of a comedy but just not that funny. Racquel Welch always watchable though. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Stuntman bungles his way through several jobs and attempts at marriage to stuntwoman Raquel Welch. Another foreign (in this case French) film that simply doesn't translate well to North American audiences. Attempts to be endearing don't quite hit while attempts at slapstick such as recurring scenes in a gorilla suit come off even worse. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Funny, smart, quick witted and very well acted. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member A film stuntman tries to patch up his relationship with his stuntwoman ex-fiance. This guy is not on the level of a Grant Page. More of a comedy but just not that funny. Racquel Welch always watchable though. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/28/23 Full Review Audience Member Relationship comedy set against a movie and stunt background, containing an innumerable number of slapstick scenes. As regards this last element, "L'animal" is like many other productions Belmondo has played in. Playing the clown is what Bebel is really good at, so we can lean back and enjoy ourselves without fear of getting bored. This film too is really funny, and not just because of the slapstick, but also because of many other witty elements. I particularly liked the repartee between Belmondo and Welch, and the way in which the French can make fun of popular culture (publicity stunts in stores with hired actors in monkey suits, stupid and above all insufferable actors and directors, seemingly important people complaining about the cost of things, etc.). My favourite scene is the one in which Belmondo tries to fool the social services in order to weedle money out of them. When one of the two officials visiting him turns out to be there for a different reason (namely to offer him a job), he drops the looney act and starts jumping up and down to show how fit for work he really is. When this person has left, the second man remains seated: he turns out to be a medical expert sent by the social services, which he himself dryly remarks. Only the French can be witty in such a subtle, yet absurd way. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Probably my favourit Belmondo...there is no weak moment in this movie and Bruno Ferrary is sweet!!! :-))))) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
