Dennis Harvey Variety Action and atmosphere are too poorly supplied for this stab at a noirish retro thriller to emerge as anything but talky, awkward and unconvincing. Jan 10, 2025 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers Although I really want to love this film, it just doesn’t quite meet expectations. It’s watchable, and it has some wonderful performances. Feb 20, 2025 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed Laws of Man is a decent film that entertains but doesn’t leave much of a trace once it’s over. Feb 10, 2025 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue Employing significantly more talk than action, the film explores morality, masculinity, and spirituality yet it’s neither consistently amusing nor convincing. Jan 10, 2025 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies “Laws of Man” is a pulpy throwback genre feature….It has a colorful company of characters, deliciously heightened drama, a terrific period-rich setting, and one gloriously gonzo ending that I never saw coming (but probably should have). SkyRo P "Laws of Man," a film released in 2025, dives into the events surrounding the assassination of JFK, focusing on the individuals who orchestrated the plot and their ambitions to destabilize the government. Initially, I found myself torn about the film. It attempted to capture the essence of the era, but I felt it missed the mark; it lacked the authenticity that would truly evoke the time surrounding JFK's assassination. Instead, it seemed more like a forced representation of that period rather than a genuine portrayal. In terms of overall quality, I would categorize it as an average film. While it had its moments, it didn't possess the rewatch value I crave in a good movie. If a film fails to engage me deeply, I’m not inclined to sing its praises. "Laws of Man" certainly has highlights, but it also suffers from numerous shortcomings. The action sequences felt overly dramatized, and the character known as Pigtails was particularly poorly acted, leaving me puzzled about her presence in the film. Ultimately, while it's a film you could watch to pass the time, it doesn’t provide any substantial insights into JFK's assassination. Instead, it leads viewers down a path of speculation, culminating in a rushed ending that felt unsatisfying. The abrupt conclusion, marked by an explosion, left me thinking, "Is that it?" It lacked the depth to resolve the narrative properly, making for a rather flat conclusion. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/25 Full Review Joe F I seriouslly didn't expect much but ended up enjoying this. Popcorn movie. You'll get a few laughs and weird twist towards the end I didn't see coming. I was surprised to see Harvey Keitel in the cast which made me take a chance on it in the first place. Where's Keith Carradine been. Solid actor. Why isn't he in more films? No spoilers but you don't see the ending coming. I would recommend it as the storyline is original despite the fact that it starts off in familiar noir western territory. Graham Greene I swear plays the same guy in every film he's in, probably because he owns the type of recurring character he made a name for himself in. Worth a watch Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/25 Full Review Tim M I love noir westerns, such as No Country for old men and the trailer definitely feels in that vein. I don't know the lead actors, I remember seeing Harvey Keitel in the trailer and that pretty much sold me. This is in no way rivaling the Coen Brothers, make no mistake, which would be stretch for any of the modern filmmakers. I will say that the plot got me going for most of the film. The last part was a bit confusing and I have seen this in other films as well when the writer tries to tie it all together neatly. Nonetheless, the acting is alright as well as the cinematography. I don't understand how other reviewers seem so critical. It's a decent flick and worth to watch. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/25 Full Review CulinaryOps S This is an interesting and twisted film. I do appreciate a good cold-war type story which has some of that here. Dermott Mulroney, who's been on and off my radar for years plays a corrupt landowner with a sinister streak. He carries this role well. The film starts out strong and is action packed and I thought the story was original. I would say more details would have been good to know towards the finale. Jackson Rathbone from the Twilight Series is decent but I thought Keohane, the other lead did a better job convincing me more as an FBI agent. Anyways, I enjoyed it, especially when I saw the actor from Game of Thrones (the Night King) come on. Almost didn't recognize him. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/25 Full Review Hendrix J A few twists and turns it was just ok Had the potential to be so much better. A sad tale but not worth watching.
