Liam D This Action Thriller that doesn't match up to the best of the genre but it's an enjoyable watch Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/30/22 Full Review Ken R Current French writers and moviemakers seem to have discovered their collective guilt regarding France's shameful collaboration with the Nazis during WW2. Now it seems they want to make amends by drawing out and highlighting those brave folk that actually did fight back under dreadful odds. This story claims to feature exploits carried out by the Special Operations Executive (SOE) and follows a group of hand-picked women, trained under Churchill's wartime initiative to undermine the merciless German advancement. This is high power daring do and can, at times, be a hard watch as these dedicated women risk their safety, lives, and families, to complete their deadly tasks. This powerful French production led to other recent British films being made on this theme and while the screenplay may have been slightly sensationalized, it's inspired by the exploits of Lise de Baissac (Lise Villameur), from Mauritius (then a British colony). The cast are suitably impressive, as are the production values and note-worthy music score by prolific French composer Bruno Coulais. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 07/20/22 Full Review Audience Member Watchable and entertaining. No Hollywood glitz, Thank Heavens. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Dick C During the Invasion War "R" to "U", it's an excellent timing motion picture to watch Female Agents, 2008 (French: Les Femmes de l'ombre)... My Cantonese Old Saying: Good will always prevail over evil. (邪不勝正)... though we have to sacrifice... Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/19/22 Full Review richard i Unfortunately close to being a parody at times, though quite guilelessly frank about French spinelessness during the Second World War. Really seems to do a disservice to the very women it is supposed to honour. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Excellent fact-based historical thriller. Espionage that had a fateful impact on ending WWII. Very realistic and not glamorous stuff..some very gritty torture scenes but mostly in-depth look at how humans behave under extreme pressure. Kat Brown Empire Magazine A war thriller in classic style, with superb central performances which help Female Agents rise above the awful title and keep you hooked from start to gripping finish. Rated: 4/5 Sep 22, 2009 Full Review Mike McCahill Daily Telegraph (UK) At no point does Female Agents begin to approach the muddy, bloody complexities of war represented by Black Book or Lust, Caution, films genuinely fascinated by the plight of women behind enemy lines. Jul 1, 2008 Full Review Jason Best Movie Talk An unashamedly old-fashioned "bunch-of-guys-on-a-mission" war film; only this time the guys are girls. Nov 13, 2020 Full Review Leigh Paatsch Herald Sun (Australia) An old-fashioned, anything-goes action movie, camouflaged by some plush European arthouse production values and some ladies who look good with weapons. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 4, 2020 Full Review Andrew L. Urban Urban Cinefile Being based on facts, the story doesn't conform to a standard dramatic structure - making it even more of a nail biting experience. Jul 26, 2008 Full Review Louise Keller Urban Cinefile Salome manages to give a sobering account of the resistance movement, as he clearly shows the cost that is paid. We warm to each of the characters as we follow the twists and turns of the complex plot that leads us through betrayals and triumphs Jul 26, 2008 Full Review Read all reviews
