Ken R 07/18/2022 Current French writers and moviemakers seem to have discovered their collective guilt regarding France's shameful collaboration with the Nazis during WW2. Now it seems they want to make amends by drawing out and highlighting those brave folk that actually did fight back under dreadful odds. This story claims to feature exploits carried out by the Special Operations Executive (SOE) and follows a group of hand-picked women, trained under Churchill's wartime initiative to undermine the merciless German advancement. This is high power daring do and can, at times, be a hard watch as these dedicated women risk their safety, lives, and families, to complete their deadly tasks. This powerful French production led to other recent British films being made on this theme and while the screenplay may have been slightly sensationalized, it's inspired by the exploits of Lise de Baissac (Lise Villameur), from Mauritius (then a British colony). The cast are suitably impressive, as are the production values and note-worthy music score by prolific French composer Bruno Coulais. See more 06/04/2022 Watchable and entertaining. Espionage that had a fateful impact on ending WWII. Very realistic and not glamorous stuff..some very gritty torture scenes but mostly in-depth look at how humans behave under extreme pressure. See more 01/18/2016 When I watch WWII movies, I prefer realism. The fantastic plot turns were absurd here, more akin to Mission Impossible. When the plans go wrong, suddenly they adapt with new uniforms to a different creative plot; a new Nazi uniform here, a nurse there, a hotel maid yet again. Women with no experience, suddenly develop the skills to be cool trained assassins and execute people like they've been doing it for years. Incorrect uniforms on German enlisted men. A warm and likable German officer who keeps his word and is trusted to do so. This movie could not ever represent some real activities, and does a grave injustice to something that might have occurred in some way. I am not sure if the problem is that the writer and director have emulated the wrong movies here. But this is completely implausible. Don't waste your time seeing it. See more 04/01/2015 Or, The Dowdy Half-Dozen? Female Agents shines some light on a rather unknown slice of World War Two history in which women were recruited and trained by the British government to act as spies in occupied France. Sophie Marceau's character was inspired by one such real life French agent named Lise de Baissac, one of only six women to be decorated with honors by the military during that war. While her backstory and future detailed in the epilogue are given a true account, what happens during the film is pure fiction! That's why her name was changed, since this mission never really occurred. Even so, the film capably presents a scenario that could have happened and thus offers an exciting couple hours of action and espionage as five women and their CO are dispatched to extract a disguised British geologist with knowledge of the imminent D-Day invasion from a German hospital. Torture scenes are wincing & convincing, as is Sophie with her stone-cold determination and ability to operate a sniper rifle.
