Joshua Rothkopf Time Out Rated: 5/5 Nov 16, 2011 Full Review Ben Kenigsberg Time Out Rated: 4/5 Nov 16, 2011 Full Review Dave Calhoun Time Out Slowly, surely this composite portrait of Chet then and now (or in 1987, when Weber shot the film) reveals its own depths. Rated: 5/6 Jun 5, 2008 Full Review David N. Butterworth rec.arts.movies.reviews The allure of Chet Baker's stage persona compared to the shambles of his personal life is staggering in Bruce Weber's fitting elegy to a genius who lived hard yet made it all look so easy. Rated: 3.5/4 Sep 5, 2015 Full Review Nathan Rabin The Dissolve Isn't a conventional documentary profile so much as a dreamy fantasia on the idea of Chet Baker that glides past its subject's fatal flaws in a wash of adolescent romanticism and swooning hero-worship. Rated: 3.5/5 Dec 16, 2013 Full Review Total Film plays like an elegy for the demise of the cool, thick with the small-hours allure of addiction and infatuation but smart enough to see clearly. Audience Member Bruce showed Chet in as close to a realistic stance as possible. Warts and all. Brilliantly edited. He was a genus musically The drugs took their toll eventually as they always do. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/19/23 Full Review Audience Member I love the juxtaposition of Baker's sweet laid back sound and the sad, out-of-control life he lead. The film is beautiful to look at but it is paced too slowly. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/21/23 Full Review Audience Member I bought this movie about a week ago and got it in the mail today. Watched it at 10 AM and just finished with it, it's 12:03 PM now. This movie was really great, sad too. A touching story. I would really recommend this. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member Dated and far-too concerned with style. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Highly intimate account of jazz musician Chet Baker. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member I had missed it, and this film is the best documentary I have seen about a musician. Mesmerizing from the beginning to the end. Fall into the abyss of a broken man whose talent is limitless. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
