mark d I've learned a few things on my many trips around the sun. Among them are: Sometimes you really CAN judge a book by its cover, and often you CAN judge a movie by its title. How can you not love a film called "Liars, Fires and Bears"? It's the perfect embodiment of the term Indie Film in that it has a relatively small budget, is well written and features great performance by some talented and relatively unknown actors. Meet Dave, played Lundon Boyd. He reminds me a bit of Seth Rogan minus the voice and laugh. Let's just say Dave enjoys his cocktails, which ends up getting him into a bit of trouble. There's a delightful and awkward scene in the beginning of the film where he tries to make small talk with a less than responsive female bar tender. It sort of sets the tone for the rest of the film. Dave encounters 9-year old Eve, who in an attempt to escape her new foster parents, decides to spend the night in his car. When he discovers her, he's not having any of it. It's the beginning of an interesting and tenuous relationship. Eve, (Megli Micek) is a precocious young girl who wants to run away and find her older brother in Colorado. After a series of mishaps and misunderstandings, Dave decides to take her there. The film evolves into one of my favorite genres, the road trip movie. Both actors are absolutely charming and have great chemistry together as they embark on their adventure. Their trip includes a series of amusing scenes and the film provides several unexpected plot twists. It's one of those rare movies where you simply want to spend a little more time with the lead characters. If you're looking for something a bit different give this one a shot. Based on their performances here, I just have to wonder why the world hasn't heard of these two gifted actors. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member This movie was great! It came on on a Saturday afternoon, on a channel that usually plays wicked bad movies, but I LOVE this movie! ???????????????? Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Good movie with some great story telling and only a couple of awkward scenes that are a little too outrageous to believe. Once the story gets going though, it is enjoyable. You'll laugh, but most likely won't cry.
