      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Life of the Party's good-natured humor and abundance of onscreen talent aren't enough to make up for jumbled direction and a script that misses far more often than it hits.

Joey M What the hell is this movie, didn't they know it was a terrible movie when they read the script. Just a truly terrible movie, can't believe it was made Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review Dinos K McCarthy is not funny. Am i the only one seeing it? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills Rated 1 out of 5 stars 03/23/24 Full Review Test T I watched this on DVD recently. Apparently, Melissa McCarthy is a comedian but I couldn't see much to laugh at in this movie. She is bubbly, and almost never stops talking, but there is no insight, subtlety, or timing. Just noise and irritation with occasional moments of bad taste. After the first half hour I felt like her long suffering huband Dan, and wanted to dump her and the film. I did not make it to the end and switched it off. I can't find anything to recommend here. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/24 Full Review Funny movie, well put together. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/24 Full Review chelsea s honestly tried the first 25 minutes to really see if it gets better. jenny mccarthy's character is so unbearably naive and squeaky clean.. too annoying to finish. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/01/24 Full Review Jessica L Good feels and some great talent for a happy feel good comedy. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/09/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

      J. R. Jones Chicago Reader The modern academic landscape of safe spaces and microaggression measurement might have given the old premise a good jolt, but Falcone and McCarthy take the easier route of throwing her character into the epic partying of the Greek system. Mar 16, 2020 Full Review Paul Byrnes Sydney Morning Herald McCarthy doesn't try to conceal her purpose: she has won her power the hard way and she wants to use it for the greater good. That's part of what makes her the cultural icon she has become, the champion of downtrodden woman of all shapes and sizes. Rated: 3/5 May 15, 2018 Full Review Roxana Hadadi Chesapeake Family Magazine Melissa McCarthy stars in Life of the Party, which uneasily tries to mix messages about female empowerment and body positivity with cliched jokes about aging. Rated: 2.5/5 May 14, 2018 Full Review Kip Mooney College Movie Review The comedy consistently works, with McCarthy showing off her versatility as a performer. Rated: B+ Aug 21, 2021 Full Review Fletcher Powell KMUW - Wichita Public Radio While Life of the Party isn't, you know, what you would call "funny," for the most part it really means well. Jul 16, 2021 Full Review Alix Turner Ready Steady Cut Nothing new or outstanding in Life of the Party, apart from how tame and unfunny it was. I wish I hadn't bothered.
