Audience Member This film should make anyone with some common sense to ask the question; why is Justin Long not bigger than he is. He's a great actor with great timing that has a knack for for giving impassioned speeches that turn you into a believer. This was a great film about a man who has a storm of unresolved issues inside him that takes him on a journey to possibly win back the girl that got away, but instead finds the peace and faith that he needs to pursue the unknown future ahead. Just watching Justin's facial expression in one of the last scenes was enough to get me misty and realize he brought a lot to this role, and this wonderful film. Critics once again, can suck it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Well it's not the typical rom-com but I really enjoy it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Sad, frustrating watch, won't watch again, and can't recommend. I finally found a Justin Long movie I don't like, I'm not a big fan of Cobie Smolders, so I don't get her being the "object of affection", I would have had a good time with Kristen Schaal's creepy doll lady character. There is a bevy of good actors who came together for what was obviously someone's passion project, and maybe it even helped them address some issues. The movie makes you feel things, but normally that takes you on an adventure, a story, towards an ending of some kind. This story, well written or not, doesn't go anywhere. I definitely felt something: all the pain over years the same stupid feeling all rolled into one movie, so now I'm sad and hungry and raw. Really, don't watch this if you're not feeling good because you're going to feel worse afterwards: whether that's to the movie's credit or not. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member A sluggish watch without much distinction Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/07/20 Full Review Audience Member If you have come looking for a "real" love story you have come to the right place. If you have come looking for a RomCom you are also in the right place. It's comical that we as a society think that romance is more than what we see in another person. Love exists, we are people, and things hit hard then fade. Some come out on top and some end as they should. Embrace love and embrace that fact that it can die. Rex Reed Observer A trite little comedy so jumbled, disconnected and bad you can't believe it doesn't star James Franco. Rated: 1/4 Oct 2, 2017 Full Review John DeFore Hollywood Reporter Justin Long, whose career was built on mild likeability, suffers for that mildness here, in a film that flounders right along with him. Oct 2, 2017 Full Review Owen Gleiberman Variety "Literally, Right Before Aaron" is minor - a spiky indie trifle - but it has a convincing perversity and flair. Oct 2, 2017 Full Review Jason Best Movie Talk Imagine My Best Friend's Wedding with a mopey male protagonist and barely a fraction of the charm or wit. Rated: 2/5 Jan 19, 2019 Full Review Todd Jorgenson Cinemalogue As this far-fetched scenario plays out, the primary characters lack both sympathy and charm, not to mention logic. Nov 10, 2017 Full Review Matthew Passantino Film Threat Literally, Right Before Aaron sets up its been-there premise without much deviation before heading into sitcom territory for the final act. In fact, most of the movie plays like a pilot that was never picked up for a full season. Rated: C+ Nov 2, 2017 Full Review Read all reviews
