Audience Member Live Another Day is about the Big Three US auto companies, who created inferior products, completely mismanaged their businesses, and then tried to blame their downfall and tax-payer bailout on the auto workers. The film is little more than a complete propaganda piece intended to muster up sympathy for free market ideology and corporate welfare. Shot almost solely as a (white male) talking head piece, as a cinematic experience it would have been better off released directly to Netflix. Although it tries to bring in both sides of the 2008-09 bailout the filmmakers only interview TWO of the autoworkers who are given, at most, ten minutes of screen time. The doc presumes that humans are put on this earth to serve banks and corporations, and not the other way around. It vilifies people who work their bones raw for 30 years and then should feel shame for getting a living wage and decent retirement. The $30 an hour and health benefits that the one main GM worker interviewee gets is actually only a little more than what minimum wage SHOULD HAVE BEEN if wages had increased with the cost of living and inflation adjustment over the last 40 years. Although the CEOs and execs own up to most of their mistakes, to the credit of the filmmakers, the film tries to paint the UAW contracts as the ultimate reason for the Big Three demise, and not the CEOs' poor negotiating abilities, the catatonic spreadsheets and Board of Directors' incompetence. It is all a classic demonstration of smart people making stupid decisions, not Barack Obama and the Democrats throwing a bone to a financial supporter as it outright claims. Michigan doesn't have THAT many electoral college votes. Its power is overstated, as are unions in general, which went from having 33% workforce representation in the 20th Century to now only under 10%. The bottom line is that life with unions is a major pain in the neck, but life without unions continues to be proven as abusive. Where's THAT story? Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member A fascinating look at the auto industry, both the history but also specifically the bailout. Great documentary for anyone interested in the auto industry and american business in general. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Audience Member Live Another Day is a riveting documentary that will keep you engaged throughout. It is thought provoking and clearly articulates the key issues that have haunted the auto industry. I would highly recommend this to young adults who, like myself, were not experiencing the day to day, minute to minute stress of the impending auto bailout. If it is in a theater near you, definitely go see it! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member An excellent documentary that is equal parts eye-opening and entertaining! It surely gets you thinking and shows there are always two sides to a story. Cool soundtrack also. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review Audience Member I am an avid movie-goer, and Live Another Day was such a pleasure to watch. It completely captured the heart and soul of the auto industry and was presented in a refreshingly straight-forward manner. The auto industry's heads of state were allowed to be themselves and present their point of views honestly. With all the media noise and fake sensationalism, this movie rings real- it is a true documentary. It's an important reminder of the abuses of power, and chronicles a big slice of American history. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Great story - clearly told. I recommend it. "Live Another Day" is the auto documentary continuation to "the Big Short"...
