When Earth falls under attack from invincible aliens, no military unit in the world is able to beat them. Maj. William Cage (Tom Cruise), an officer who has never seen combat, is assigned to a suicide mission. Killed within moments, Cage finds himself thrown into a time loop, in which he relives the same brutal fight -- and his death -- over and over again. However, Cage's fighting skills improve with each encore, bringing him and a comrade (Emily Blunt) ever closer to defeating the aliens.

Critics Consensus

Gripping, well-acted, funny, and clever, Edge of Tomorrow offers entertaining proof that Tom Cruise is still more than capable of shouldering the weight of a blockbuster action thriller.

Edge of Tomorrow is a rousing adventure filled with pulse-pounding thrills and surprising dashes of character-driven humor, the film a breathless two hours of fun worth celebrating. Go to Full Review

[Edge of Tomorrow] may not be as smart as it could've been in the broad strokes, but a clever, well-acted thrill ride like this doesn't really need to have its head fully in the game, now does it? Go to Full Review

Another romance via time loop, but with Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt. I wish this had somehow acknowledged its Japanese source material, but still an inspired interpretation. Go to Full Review

Edge of Tomorrow is one of Tom Cruise’s best films of late. The framework and structure is unique and well handled for the most part and is still exciting, even though the final act isn’t quite on the same level. Go to Full Review

Darcy J @Darcidious 1d def one of the best time loop movies, and the cgi is amazing See more Thyaagu C @Thyaagu 2d Except for making the biggest action star look like a total rookie in combat, which felt a bit odd to me personally, this one got everything spot on. Emily Blunt co-led the film with the same force as Cruise. The VFX team left me speechless! Just incredible and astounding. See more Par H @Parhwy Mar 13 The Edge of Tomorrow (2014) is 113-minute-long film which I watched on Prime in March 2026. I have watched this film 20, 30 times. The Autism in me loves to rewatch films. Covid led me to watch this film on repeat. It spoke to me of being trapped in something much bigger than myself which lacked an escape, an end. It's also a victory over heart-crushing horror with effort and love. The film itself is a well thought out yet gung-ho popcorn movie with whippersnapper aliens, and Blunt and Cruise being badass and humorous. There are some directing choices in the humorous scenes which are slightly subpar (the scene with the prototype transponder which Blunt grabs comes to mind). Bill Paxton is wonderful; that "No, sir. I’m from Kentucky" line is great scripting and he nailed it. The penultimate scene being at night suffers from difficulty in viewing. The CGI stands-up these twelve years later. Rewatch? Yes. Recommend? Yes. 8/10. See more Jeff B @RT54874440 Mar 9 I was telling people about this movie at work back in 2017 and they had no idea that it even existed thanks in no part to the late name change and terrible marketing of this film. Based off a light novel by Hiroshi Sakurazaka, All You Need is Kill (2004 - it's a very quick read and highly recommended) Edge has excellent casting and it does the time-loop extremely well, however you never get a sense of the time that has passed (which is a flaw). The Mimics are a great alien enemy, and the story is nicely paced with plenty of action. Blunt and Cruise are an effective team and Edge is a great sci-fi action movie. See more Angello D @CriticAngelo Mar 8 Sci-fi that actually makes sense, solid VFX, and stakes that feel real. See more Sebastian T @Inliogegierr Mar 3 Honestly just a top tier movie. This has to be one of my favourites. It’s a fun enjoyable movie with a likeable and relateale main character. Unlike other paradox movies this one doesn’t show a lot of scenes that we’ve already seen and when we do see them they add a bit of nuance to them making those scenes more enjoyable. Rita vrataski is a great example of a well-written, likeable, strong female character. Private Cage has great character development, going from a coward to a badass action hero at the end. The plot and ending is quite confusing, it took me two rewatches to understand it Warning spoilers past this point. So the ending incase you’re confused is basically after Cage loses the blood he goes of to the Omega in Paris where he sacrifices himself now this is one of those parts that confused me but after rewatching it you’ll find that he absorbs the Omega’s blood and he resets the day.
