When Earth falls under attack from invincible aliens, no military unit in the world is able to beat them. Maj. William Cage (Tom Cruise), an officer who has never seen combat, is assigned to a suicide mission. Killed within moments, Cage finds himself thrown into a time loop, in which he relives the same brutal fight -- and his death -- over and over again. However, Cage's fighting skills improve with each encore, bringing him and a comrade (Emily Blunt) ever closer to defeating the aliens.

Wow- D-Day meets Groundhog Day meets transformers! I'm so not a sci-fi fan and of course much of this is totally ridiculous but it's been pulled off with incredible skill. Cruise, Blunt, Gleeson et Al are all excellent. To combat the crazy concepts there is terrific comedy moments and some real heart felt emotions. I bought into it and enjoyed every minute.

the problem is the deus ex machina bullshit that happened when he got the blood transfusion. if he had wanted to make sure that he regained the blood of the alpha, he and rita could have just both focused on the alpha so that the major could *regain* his abilities. after that, none of the others would have happened so it kinda makes the climatic end sequence obsolete.
