Arun (Ranjit Chowdhry) comes to the United States from his native India with aspirations of becoming a success. However, when he arrives in New York City, he finds the reality to be much more humbling and frustrating. He is initially unable to find any work except for a magazine stand run by his conservative uncle, Max (Tirlok Malik). Meanwhile, Arun tries to adjust to his new culture but finds the changes very difficult. Eventually, he starts to adapt and thrive.
