Rafer Guzman Newsday A small-scale but brave and frequently funny documentary from North Woodmere-raised filmmaker Gayle Kirschenbaum. Rated: 2.5/4 May 5, 2016 Full Review Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times Anyone who's ever had a contentious relationship with a parent should find something to relate to in Gayle Kirschenbaum's enjoyable documentary "Look at Us Now, Mother!" Apr 8, 2016 Full Review Ken Jaworowski New York Times For a movie that promises an "epic journey" to explore a family's "long-buried suffering," it's strangely unsatisfying, and eventually wearisome, to find that this clan is deeply troubled perhaps only in the eyes of its filmmaker. Apr 7, 2016 Full Review Avi Offer NYC Movie Guru Candid, brave and moving, but it leaves too many unanswered questions that might have been asked by an unbiased filmmaker with more distance from the Kirschenbaum family. Rated: 7/10 Apr 7, 2016 Full Review Simi Horwitz Film Journal International The autobiographical doc about a disturbed mother-daughter relationship and its resolution is not without interest, yet its exhibitionistic elements are a bit unsettling. Apr 7, 2016 Full Review Kam Williams Baret News A fascinating airing of dirty laundry leading to an overdue reconciliation between a browbeaten daughter and her merciless abuser. Audience Member This was a movie I can relate to completely with the exception of the two things this mother and daughter were able to accomplish. An apology from the mother and forgiveness from the daughter. My end result to multiple tries to talk with my mother about our dysfunctional relationship was frighteningly different. It's so nice to see this mother and daughter resolving their issues and start a special friendship. Unfortunately, when I tried to bring up the issue of lacking love felf from my mother, she projected blame by calling me mentally ill. Our relationship has now been severed since I chose to be no contact with her. The movie is very well done and reality for so many of us. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member I thought it was whiny and a tad bit mean. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member For anyone who has ever had a mother, this movie is a must see. No matter what your relationship with your mother, Look at Us Now offers a funny and extremely poignant view of how the mother/child relationship can effect every part of your life. And then the bonus is the amazing transformation that Gayle was able to take control of in order to forgive her mother and create happiness in her life. You will laugh, you will cry - you will not be sorry you saw this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member Genuine and touching, this movie draws you from the first minute to the last. The topic of love and forgiveness never goes out of style. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member Wow! A movie with humor, pathos and self-discovery. Great. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Look At Us Now, Mother! is a memorable and touching film about healing. It is a raw, honest and funny journey of Gayle and her mother, Mildred, through their love-hate relationship over the decades. At the end LAUNM shows how they were able to reconcile and forgive to each other. And the film emotional intensity and depth help to the viewer to face his/her own past, pain and memories, teaching forgiveness and healing. Entertaining and emotional, a powerful film among the remarkable personal documentaries with universal appeal. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Read all reviews
