And this film did it not with plot, it did it with genre. Let me explain… I thought this film was going to be a quirky, folksy smalltown American tale about a kid with a fantastical medical condition who falls in love. My notes reflect that for the first half. At that point, I even started to extrapolate. I usually live in the moment in most films. I hoped that Max’s and Erica’s timelines merge and resolve. I had reservations when Max and Erica had an It’s A Wonderful Life moment… I kept on viewing thinking, hoping this will be a quirky, folksy film. Fair warning: this film breaks your heart, and it touches on suicide, dementia, murder, and euthanasia. This is a good film. Just… wow. Rewatch? No. Should you watch it? Yes.
