Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle A brief history lesson that touches on communist Cuba's food rationing system discussed while the brothers venture out into Havana in search of an elusive bottle of soy sauce feels unnecessary, but that's a minor misstep in an otherwise embracing film. Rated: 3/5 Jun 1, 2021 Full Review Claudia Puig FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) I really enjoyed this movie. It's a well-made film... Anyone who loves music -- especially from Cuba -- will appreciate it. May 21, 2021 Full Review Ben Kenigsberg New York Times A moving documentary with generous amounts of music, "Los Hermanos/The Brothers" follows two musician siblings from Havana whose personal closeness is at odds with the geopolitics that keep them apart. May 13, 2021 Full Review Pat Padua Spectrum Culture A tense undercurrent runs through the 84-minute feature. That conflict, and the subtlety with which it's rendered, makes the film stand out in a world full of good music documentaries. Rated: 80/100 Jul 29, 2021 Full Review Bradley Gibson Film Threat The soundtrack alone makes Los Hermanos/The Brothers worth watching, but Jarmel and Schneider also show us how American exceptionalism and isolation are denying us the gifts of art that come from being an engaged participant in the world. Audience Member I loved this film! It was so touching, the relationship between the two brothers, and the heartbreak that they had been separated almost their whole lives. Fascinating insights into Cuba, more than I've really experienced from any other film. And then the parallels with abandoned homes and neighborhoods in Detroit - turned into art - wow. And the music was fantastic throughout! I especially loved Aldo's compositions. Just a fantastic film -- see it if you can! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
